Renault Duster arrived in India in 2012 when no one was expecting an SUV like this to have some serious purposes. It had got the right set of offerings one was expecting in a good SUV. Moreover, it was a real SUV, unlike most of the pseudo ones today in the same segment. AWD, good ground clearance, etc, were some cool abilities of this SUV. It became the favorite SUV of India in no time with a sales figure of an average of 5000 units per month in 2013. But, later, people started driving themselves away from the Duster, as Renault did not look upon it much. Having other SUVs, like XUV500 and others entering the market, people became less interested in the Duster.
Ultimately, this led Renault to drag the Duster up till 2020, when the average sales figure of the SUV dropped to just 300 units per month, and then, Renault discontinued it in 2020 itself. But, now Renault has made its duster bigger, better, and superior than before capable of killing every gay SUV in the segment.
The Renault Duster, when launched in India in 2012, had a very simple design. It looked more like an extended hatchback, with a massive ground clearance, and a good set of mechanicals. In the third generation of the Renault Duster, that is the 2024 Renault Duster, we get a similar body structure but with some extra SUV traits in the design.
On the Top, we have a simple thick bar that consists of the upper front grille of the SUV and the headlamps. The grille has square-shaped air vents directing towards the radiator. Between these elements, we can see a Renault logo placed. On both ends of this bar, there have been placed the headlamps, which use complete LEDs for their operation. A DRL has also been placed in between these headlamps.
Moving below, there is also a huge rugged-looking skid plate running from the underbody to the half-front fascia. A secondary air dam grille has been placed on this skid plate. We can also see a total of four Parking sensors on the front of the car. A pair of fog lamps have also been added on the lower side of this skid plate.
Beside this skid plate housing, we can also see a vertical bar, which acts as the air-passing vent. This will improve the aerodynamic factor of the SUV. On the front windshield, we can also see the housing for the front camera unit of the ADAS functionalities.
On the side of the 2024 Duster, as said, it carries a similar body structure as the previous generation. Overall, the design is also identical to the second generation of the Duster.
On the wheel’s side, we have a set of 18’ alloy wheels, which have the diamond cut design given to it. It looks more like the petals of some flower, but they are nice. The wheel arches are thick to improve the rugged look of the SUV which runs only on the sides of the vehicle. The wheel cladding is also substantial, and they have a simple straight-line, boxy design given to them. The door handles of the rear doors are sort of hidden in the C-pillar. It also gets operational roof rails, upon which you can carry up to 80 kg.
The rear contains a sharp curve, and on the top of it, we can see it has a sporty-looking spoiler. This SUV does not get a shark fin antenna, rather it gets the conventional antenna. The rearview glass also happens to be smaller in terms of its size. It has also got a wiper to keep the glass clean.
Below it, we can see the Renault logo. The rear body panel also has some minimal cuts and creases to appeal to the boxy design language of the SUV. Then at the bottom, we have a similar-looking skid plate, like on the front fascia. This skid plate looks rugged and also contains parking sensors in it.
The tail lamps of the SUV are again minimal, and individually placed. They are shaped like an inverted ‘V’ with Indicators placed in between them. The reverse light has been placed at the bottom, below the reflectors.
The dimensions of the 2024 Renault Duster are 4.3 meters in length, 1.6 meters in height, and 1.8 meters in width. The wheelbase of the vehicle measures 2.6 meters. The boot space of the 2024 Duster is also massive measuring up to 472 liters.
The Ground clearance of the 2024 Duster is tall, at 217 mm. Having a tall ground clearance has also benefited the SUV by giving it a safe Approach angle of 31 degrees and a Departure angle of 36 degrees. This helps the SUV to go over any uneven road surface with no issue.
The interiors of the 2024 Renault Duster are updated in the right direction, where we can say technology and practicality are moving forward simultaneously.
On the dashboard, we get a lot of features like a 12’ Infotainment screen. This screen provides a slue of useful features with a clean and crisp interface. It gets wireless connectivity to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto feature, which looks well-organized. It also gets all the Climate control functions embedded into the screen, with physical controls placed below the screen, too. It also provides access to a lot of useful off-road features, as well.
Then we have a 7’ Driver’s Instrument Cluster which is also a complete digital setup. It also uses a similar interface as the Infotainment system. It shows a lot of driver’s and vehicular-related information, like real-time driving range, Instantaneous fuel efficiency, Tire pressure monitoring system, safety features, etc. The steering wheel is similar to the ones in the new-age Renault and Nissan cars. Its shape and design are identical, and the button placement is also the same.
As said, the dashboard also consists of a few physical buttons for operations like controlling Climate control, Drive modes, etc. We can see these buttons placed right below the central AC vents. The drive modes can be operated through the Drive selector stick in the center console. The Parking brake is also electric, placed beside the Drive stick. It also gets a wireless charging pad placed before the Drive stick. The cupholders are placed right before the armrest.
The most interesting thing or we shall say an innovation made by Renault is the Youclip attachment system in the car. There are several points in the car where you can hook a patented Youclip, introduced by Dacia/Renault, to increase practicality throughout the cabin.
The 2024 Renault Duster has a total of three engine options, where we can see almost every ICE option provided by this Duster.
Starting with a 1.0 L 3 Cyl Petrol / LPG Engine. This unit uses a 50-liter tank of LPG, it produces around 98 hp. This engine is also said to give a driving range of 1200 km on a full tank.
Then, we have a 1.2 L Mild Hybrid Turbo Petrol Engine. This engine is connected to an 800 Watts battery. This is also supposed to be the most fuel-efficient engine of all the 2024 Duster engines. It produces about 128 hp.
At last, we have a 1.6 L Hybrid Petrol Engine. This unit is connected to a 1.2 kWh battery pack, which helps the car to drive in the full electric mode for 80 percent of the time. This engine produces 140 hp.
The 2024 Renault Duster is expected to make its way to the Indian shores in 2024. We could expect an arrival time in the next four to five months, which is July - August 2024.
The pricing of the 2024 Renault Duster will be a key factor, as the brand will try to price it cheaper and aggressively. We expect it to start from ₹11 lacs and go up to ₹17 lacs.
