Maruti Suzuki is known for its excellence in delivering highly fuel-efficient cars in the World. From the Maruti Alto being the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car to the Maruti Grand Vitara being the most fuel-efficient Hybrid SUV, the brand has a wide number of options available in the Indian market. Well, speaking of the Grand Vitara, it has been made in collaboration with Toyota and it also uses Toyota’s Strong Hybrid technology for both Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. However, a recent speculation stated that Maruti is up to developing a new independent Strong Hybrid system for its Low and Mid-range products. 

Toyota’s Strong Hybrid System in Grand Vitara

Currently, Maruti Suzuki does not have any Strong Hybrid system of its own in the Indian market. For its Midsize SUV - the Grand Vitara, it uses a Toyota-sourced Strong Hybrid system that runs on the Atkinson Cycle. The Atkinson Cycle recirculates the exhaust gases into the Internal Combustion chamber to cool it down. This leads to the use of less fuel to do the same. Moreover, the Battery connected to the engine also participates in powering the wheel, which ultimately, lowers the fuel usage and gives a better fuel efficiency. But, this technology also makes the SUV cost a bit more than its rivals. 

Maruti Suzuki’s own Strong Hybrid system

Now, Maruti Suzuki is up to developing its kind of strong hybrid system, which will be lower in terms of cost and, hence, can be used in Maruti’s low and mid-segment cars and SUVs. This system will not work like Toyota’s strong hybrid system, as it will not process using the Atkinson cycle. 

Maurti’s strong hybrid system will rather work like the Nissan’s strong hybrid system. It will have its engine connected to the battery and not to the wheels, and instead of the engine powering the wheels, the battery will be the one to do that. The engine will simply work as a generator that will keep on recharging the battery. Ultimately, while driving this strong hybrid system, it would sound as if the engine is powering the wheels but, it will just recharge the battery and the battery would be the one to power the wheels. In the end, this will lead the engine to bear much less stress than usual and burn a lot less fuel than usual. 

2025 Maruti Fronx to get this Strong Hybrid system first!

The upcoming update of the Maruti Fronx is supposed to be launched in January 2025 and will be the first one to get Maruti’s own Strong Hybrid system. It will also make the SUV, the third in the line-up of the brand to have a strong hybrid system, and the first to have Maruti Suzuki’s own. 

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx already generates a fuel efficiency of 23 kmpl, claimed by the brand. This figure is generated through its 1.2 L naturally aspirated engine option, which does have a Smart-hybrid system that is just used to power the main battery of the car which helps increase a bit of efficiency in Stop & Go traffic. 

Now, this 1.2 L Naturally aspirated engine is a Baleno-sourced engine. It is a 4-cylinder engine that produces 89 hp and 113 Nm torque. Maruti has already launched a replacement of this engine with the new 2024 Swift. It is called the Z12E, which is a 1.2 L 3-cylinder engine producing 82 hp and 112 Nm torque. This engine will be the one that will replace the old 1.2 L Naturally aspirated engine and will also come with Maruti’s upcoming Strong Hybrid system in the 2025 Fronx. This setup will easily make the Fronx generate 35 kmpl, which will be the highest in the segment. 

The Fronx also gets a 1.0 L Turbo Petrol engine, which will definitely not be made available with this new Strong Hybrid system. Still, this engine produces 100 hp and 147 Nm torque. It is available in either a 5-speed Gearbox or a 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic. This engine will also continue serving in the 2025 Fronx. 

2025 Maruti Fronx Key Features

The Fronx already has a great design given to it. With a proper balance of attractive chrome and glossy elements used in the SUV’s design, the Fronx no doubt is the best-looking in its segment. Anyway, speaking more about the 2025 Fronx, it will still be based on Baleno’s platform - Heartect Platform. Both of the cars have similar wheelbases, too. 

The Features front will be upgraded with the new 9-inch Infotainment screen from the 2024 Swift. A few changes on the dashboard are also highly expected in the 2025 Fronx. The Fronx might also bring in a Ventilation function for the front row to be ahead of its rivals. The Steering wheel and instrument cluster will get minimal cosmetic changes. The Cabin experiences will be upgraded with better quality and colored materials. The Automatic Climate control will be kept standard on the 2025 Fronx like it is today. 

2025 Maruti Fronx Price details

The 2025 Fronx’s price will be higher than it is today. It could start from ₹8 Lakhs. The Strong Hybrid system will be sold only in the Higher variants.
