2025 Taigun Update - Volkswagen Brand Director confirms these Three Exciting Features

August 26th, 2024

Volkswagen has been operating in the Indian market for over a decade now. This brand has been everyone’s favorite when it comes to enthusiastic cars. Because of this, the brand image of Volkswagen has also been positive throughout its time in India. Currently, the brand is following its INDIA 2.0 Strategy, which consists of India-made SUVs and Sedans - Taigun and Virtus. Out of these two cars, Taigun has been the choice of the majority of customers, and in a recent interview taken by EVO India, the Brand Director of Volkswagen - Mr. Ashish Gupta confirmed these two exciting features in the 2025 Volkswagen Taigun.

About the Volkswagen Taigun

The Volkswagen Taigun is based on the brand’s cost-effective derivative of the MQB A0 platform, which is MQB A0 IN. This platform has been developed by taking key attributes from the MQB A0 and ultimately, making a budget-friendly variant for the Indian Market. This platform not only underpins the Volkswagen Taigun but also the Virtus, Skoda Kushaq, and Slavia. It was supposed to underpin the update of Polo but, the brand discontinued the Hatch in India.

The Taigun is one of the best SUVs in its segment in terms of Quality offering and enthusiastic performance. The Quality offered in the SUV is way better than most of the other SUVs. It feels premium and gives a pleasant experience overall. The Performance front is also applauded a lot by the consumers. The Taigun was the first SUV in the segment to offer a real-enthusiastic performance-offering engine - 1.5 L TSI with 6-speed Manual and 7-speed DCT Gearbox.

But, the Taigun also lacks behind when it comes to features. In the period where Indians crave features like ADAS, Panoramic Sunroof, bigger screens, more technologically-driven cabins, etc, the Taigun fails to offer most of it. The German SUV does offer a sunroof but, it is a regular-sized one, which is not much appreciated in the Indian market. It also offers smooth-working, decently big screens (10.25-inch Infotainment screen and 8-inch Instrument Cluster) but, they need more features as the competition offers. About ADAS, then, the Taigun does not get it at all, unlike a few rivals.

Now, let us move forward to learn what the Three Exciting Features confirmed by Mr. Ashish Gupta - Brand Director of Volkswagen, the 2025 Taigun is going to get.

1 - Panoramic Sunroof

The 2025 Taigun will offer a Panoramic sunroof as confirmed by Mr. Ashish Gupta. A Panoramic sunroof was a much-needed feature in the Taigun based on the market trend. Even though Volkswagen has been launching various special editions of the Taigun and Virtus, the latest one being the ‘Onam Edition’, still, there was no Panoramic sunroof inclusion seen in the SUV.

A Panoramic sunroof is no doubt one of the very strong and convincing reasons for a car in India. Moreover, if offered at a lower price, it will surely be a hit in the industry.

Volkswagen will most probably not only include a Panoramic sunroof but also bring in various advanced features with it, like a sunroof opening on Voice command in various languages.

2 - ADAS Level 2

The next hot feature in any SUV or car to have in India is ADAS. Even though ADAS cannot be used in its full-fledged manner on Indian roads, the inclusion of this feature is still appreciated by consumers. Currently, the Volkswagen Tiguan is the only Volkswagen car in India to have Level 1 ADAS, which is mostly used for its Park assist feature.

By introducing Level 2 ADAS in the 2025 Taigun, Volkswagen would be able to position the SUV in a much better way. Obviously, it will also help the SUV to have many more features, like Adaptive Crusie Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Stop & Go Traffic feature, etc.

In the end, it will help Taigun compete better with its key rivals, like Hyundai Creta.

3 - Taigun CNG Variants

Today, CNG is one of the most preferred fuel options in India, as Petrol and Diesel prices have become the victim of inflation. Indian Consumers are now, leaning more towards CNG than they used to. Ultimately, this has made all other brands include CNG variants in their line-up. In the Midsize SUV segment of the Taigun, the Maruti Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are the only SUVs that offer CNG as standard in a few variants.

Well, Mr. Ashish Gupta was not as particular on the CNG topic as he was on the rest of the two. However, he did mention that CNG is something that they are evaluating currently in the house. This confirms that we could see some CNG-powered Volkswagen cars in the future. Overall, this will also help the brand to somewhat satisfy the high maintenance problem of Volkswagen consumers. So, we could see some Taigun CNG variants in the future.
