It is commendable when smaller car brands copy bigger car brands like Mahindra making the Jeep Wrangler knock-off - Thar. However, it is unusual when bigger Car brands end up copying smaller car brands, for eg: The 2025 Mini Cooper Countryman looks like a jacked-up Maruti Suzuki Swift. Well, we are not literally saying that Mini Cooper copied the Maruti Swift’s design but, the new 2025 Countryman facelift has been launched in the United Kingdom, and it has so less differentiating factors than the Swift in terms of its design.
Anyway, the Second Generation of the Countryman is currently being offered in the Indian market with a price tag of ₹47.75 lakhs. This is currently the flagship and the biggest Mini Cooper SUV being sold in India, and also in the rest of the markets. This Subcompact Luxury Crossover SUV was first launched in 2010 and is currently in its third generation (the one that we are talking about is the facelifted model of the Third Generation).
The Countryman’s design language has always been quite a resemblance to the Swift. But, we shall not say it is a copy because it follows the design heritage of its brand - Being minimal, roundy, and classy-looking. Ultimately, the brand had to follow these design principles, so that the Countryman looks like a “Mini Cooper”, which made the SUV sort of look like the Maruti Swift.
Moreover, if the 2025 Countryman facelift looks more like the 2024 Swift, then this does not mean that Mini Cooper copied Maruti Suzuki. In fact, Mini Cooper had already come up with this design in the Third Generation of the Countryman, which was launched in September 2023. So, the equation is more like - Maruti Suzuki Copied Mini Cooper.
Anyway, let us take a deep dive into this classically beautiful-looking German-owned British SUV. Starting from the front, the overall design structure of the Countryman has been almost kept the same with roundness everywhere but, those circular shapes now have been a little squared off.
The grille gets a simple glossy black design treatment with a huge front Radar for the ADAS on the front - all of this is surrounded by a copper circumference. Below the grille, there have been added rectangle-shaped air inputs holding the 360-degree camera’s front unit. We can also see 6 Parking sensors on the front with ADAS cameras on the windshield. The Headlamp design is something that totally looks like the ones in the Swift. The Countryman gets full LEDs with rounded DRLs whose design can be changed through the Infotainment screen.
The Side profile is stylish with the new design element added post-C-pillar. The Countryman also gets a set of new alloy wheels in various sizes and designs depending on the variant you buy - the ones showcased in the image are 18 inches and are wrapped by 245/40 section of tires. The cladding is minimal with slightly squared wheel arches. An addition of a silver-finished design element on the cladding looks cool with the traditional-styled door handles. The post-C-pillar design element, we talked about, can be changed in various other designs via Genuine Accessories.
The Rear Profile of the Countryman holds one of the best Tail lamps in the Auto Industry, as their design is changeable through the Infotainment screen. The rear also gets 6 Parking sensors with an electrically opening Tailgate.
The 2025 Mini Cooper Countryman gets one of the best-looking Dashboards with a simple cabin experience. The dashboard gets a premium quality cloth finish with vertically shaped AC vents. It has also become more modern with very minimal equipment, as most of the things can be operated through the Infotainment screen, which is modern yet has a downside in safety & convenience.
The Countryman also gets its Instrument Cluster and the Infotainment screen in a single 9.4-inch beautiful circular OLED screen. This screen runs on Mini OS, which is amazingly crafted and designed. The UI/UX of this OS is supreme with nice colorful graphics. This screen obviously gets wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. This screen also gives access to the 8 Drive modes of the Countryman - Vivid, Core, Green, Timeless, Go-Kart, Balance, Trail, and Personal. This screen is the literal house for every basic feature in this SUV - Climate Control, Deat Ventilation, Drive Modes, etc.
The Steering wheel also gets a new three-spoke design, in which, the lower spoke is made up of cloth. This wheel holds buttons for media controls, Voice Assistance, and ADAS. Speaking of ADAS, it gets a Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision avoidance, etc.
The only convenient button hub is under the huge Infotainment screen/Instrument cluster - This hub consists of only an Engine start/stop knob, Drive mode knob, Gear selector knob, Electronic Parking Brake, Defoggers, Media control rotary button, and 360-degree Parking Camera. Below this, we have a wireless charging pad with Cup holders and Phone storage space. The Center console gets a new addition with two storage houses - One being the usual Armrest and the second being a new cubical storage space with a closable lid like the armrest.
The Countryman is offered in only a 5-seater configuration. The front-row seats have a ventilation function. The second row is offered with AC vents and charging ports. They also have an armrest. Seats can be folded in a 40-20-40 split. The Boot space is measured at 450 liters, which is 50 liters less than its German sibling, BMW X1. It also gets a Panoramic sunroof.
Internationally, the Countryman facelift gets three powertrains, all of which are Petrol-powered. The Countryman also offers a Diesel engine, which will not be available in the Indian market.
A 1.5 L I3 Turbocharged Petrol engine producing 170 hp and 280 Nm torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT Gearbox or an 8-speed Automatic. It powers only the front wheels and can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr under 8.4 seconds. This will be the only engine offered in the Indian market, and the rest of them will be neglected.
A 2.0 L I4 Turbocharged, which produces 218 hp and 360 Nm torque. This engine is only mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox. It powers all 4 wheels making it an AWD, this helps it accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 7.1 seconds.
The same engine is also offered in the top-line JCW (John Cooper Works) variant, and it produces 300 hp and 400 Nm torque. It is mated to the same 7-speed DCT Gearbox and accelerates from 0-100 km/hr in 5.4 seconds.
The Diesel is a 2.0 L unit that produces 160 hp and 400 Nm torque. It is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox and can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 8.5 seconds.
The India launch of the 2025 Mini Cooper Countryman will not take place soon. Most probably, it will scheduled for the coming year - 2025. The prices of the upcoming Countryman will also be increased - our expectations say ₹55 lakhs.
