How 2024 Tata Curvv will kill Creta Facelift - Pricing, Features, Interior

January 17th, 2024

2024 Tata Curvv is Tata Motors’ next most anticipated launch after the Punch.ev. It is also a product upon which everyone has their hopes high. Well, obvisouly they would, as the Curvv itself is a greatly promising product. It is something that will come out from a well-evolved Tata Motors, whose cars today are recommendable to customers. So, if the Curvv is launching in the same segment where there are cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, etc. then would it be able to tackle the standards that these cars have created? Well, to know this, we will have a detailed discussion about How 2024 Tata Curvv will outrun all the Midsize SUVs? So that, we would have an idea to wait for this car or to just go for the best of the present.

Note - We will be considering the ICE Tata Curvv, as there are no EVs present in this segment yet. Therefore, the upcoming ICE version of the Curvv would give us a broader idea about this query.

Who will the Tata Curvv compete with?

To know whether Curvv could go head-on with these cars or not, first, we would have to learn what cars will it compete against once it is launched in the Indian Market. As said, the 2024 Tata Curvv is a Midsize SUV, so ultimately, its primary rivals are going to be the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Citroen C3 AirCross and MG Astor

Key Points -

Platform -

The 2024 Tata Curvv will be underpinning the X1 platform, which also provides the derivative foundation for their mighty Nexon. Well, to go more deep into this, the X1 platform, originally, is from the Indica Vista, which was on sale almost more than a decade ago. But, we would not have to worry about anything, as this platform is one heavily re-engineered platform to fulfill all the safety demands put forth by the Government, and the modern needs of the consumers.

Secondly, as said, this is the same platform as Nexon’s, but it is not the same to the brim. This platform will be engineered again so that it would cater a better and much-needed dimensions of the Curvv concerning it being a Midsize SUV. Our presumptions state that it will have an increased wheelbase of up to 100 mm, which will take it to 2600 mm compared to the Nexon’s 2500mm . Ultimately, this will provide a betterment in the cabin of the Curvv, as the space inside will be upped.

Design -

Design is the second most prioritized factor when buying a car in India after features. So, how is the Curvv in terms of its design? Well, the Curvv is outstanding when it is a matter of its design. It provides the elegance and coolness of a Coupe, plus having all the characteristics of an SUV.

We have already seen that the Curvv, instead of being a revolution, is an evolution of the 2023 Nexon Facelift’s design. It has an identical front with the same positioning of all the fundamentals of the vehicle. The difference starts to appear from the rear half, as the roof unconventionally goes into a smooth decline of an angle. It includes the coolness and modern factor in the design language of the Curvv.

Moreover, if we have a look at this Midsize SUV segment, all the SUVs have a similar body structure with the typical hatch at the back. It has been more than five years, and whichever SUV has entered this segment, has the same design structure throughout the range. Thus, even though the Curvv is more of an evolution when compared to the Nexon’s design, this will be very sure that in the segment, it will be more of a revolution. Therefore, it will have an upper hand in terms of the design throughout the segment, which could also be a selling point for the SUV.

Technology -

Since 2023, Tata Motors has taken the technology factor for their cars quite aggressively. They are overloading their cars with plenty of useful and ‘upmarket’ features like ADAS safety tech big sunroof, or multi-color ambient lighting Well, it will still depend on time, as we do not know whether these features are reliable or not. But we can assure you one thing that earlier, there was only one name in our mouths when it came to features, Hyundai, well, now there is one more, Tata Motors.

The new Tata Curvv SUV will have a host of segment-first features making it a true icon like a big 12.3-inch touchscreen display, a Floating dashboard design where there is no bridge between the driver and the co-driver seat, rotatory gear lever for a Land Rover-like feel and the much-anticipated coupe boot with better luggage capacity.

Powertrain Options -

tata curvv engine 1.2l turbo

The Tata Curvv will have one powertrain option from the Nexon Facelift, but it will also introduce one new one. Let us know what all it could get -

The 1.2 L Turbo Petrol GDI engine will be Tata Motors’ first direct injection engine, which will produce 125 hp and 190 / 225 Nm of Torque depending on the transmission options. This engine will have a 6-speed Manual, a and 7-speed DCA transmission options. The DCA transmission option will most probably be given to the sportier version of the Curvv, wherein, it will produce the mentioned 225 Nm of Torque.

The Curvv will also have a diesel engine option, which will be sourced straight out of the Nexon. The 1.5 L Diesel engine , which produces 108 hp and 260 Nm of Torque . This engine will most probably be preferred by the customers, due to the practical usage it provides. It is a well-built engine, too, so, it could be trusted. This engine will have two transmission options, a 6-speed Manual and a 6-speed AT .

Pricing -

The pricing is a key factor, being the competition is so high in this segment, so, Tata Motors has to get their positioning of the Curvv right in the market. Well, as the vehicle has not yet been launched, our presumptions state that the Ex-showroom pricing of the 2024 Tata Curvv will start from ₹ 11 lacs and climb up to ₹ 17 lacs and the on road prices can vary from  13-20 lakhs.

This could be great pricing if the Curvv would offer versatility throughout its range. It will surely get a lot of attention from audiences, like the Punch and the Nexon. But, if the pricing exceeds a bit more than this, it will probably create some issues for the brand.

Will it beat all the Midsize SUVs?

We feel that Tata Motors has a great chance of conquering one more segment like they did in the sub-compact SUV segments. After all, the product looks and sounds great with whatever promises made by the brand, moreover, the product itself has grown enough brand identity since its announcement.

Therefore, the game is more in the hands of Tata Motors, than in the destiny of the product itself. If the brand is smart enough to place it right and gets the checkboxes ticked with appropriate needs fulfilled, the 2024 Tata Curvv will surely outrun the segment-king Hyundai Creta.
