Our simply clever friend has finally updated its long-awaited SUV. Meet the new 2024 Skoda Kodiaq, which gets new interiors and a bigger screen. Let us dive into it because the whole concept is very interesting. Basically, have you ever in your life seen a thing which might belong to something, but it is owned by something else? If you have not, do not worry! Because I have an example for you. And it is a Hamburger. Yes, you heard it right!
Hamburgers are literally the most famous food item today in the United States; they just love it. And it has been a part of their lives for a very long time now. It is so popular and loved that all Americans own its presence in their country. But do you know Hamburgers do not even belong to the US? Yes, it originates from Hamburg, Germany.
And today, we are going to talk about a very well-known German belonging, which in the first place, does not belong to Germany. Confused? Well, as said earlier, I am talking about Skoda Auto, our simply clever choice from the Czech Republic.
This brand in India has been quite active for the past two to three years now with their medium budget offerings - Kushaq and Slavia, and their premium budget offerings - Kodiaq and Superb. From time to time, updating Kushaq and Slavia, Skoda has pleased the Indian audience a lot, but today, somewhere, it feels like their flagship offering is lagging behind. I am talking about the Skoda Kodiaq. It is premium, but it still feels like it is trying to cope with the time and is failing miserably. But, as mentioned earlier, the all new 2024 Skoda Kodiaq has entered, so let us dive into this matter and check out what this updated version has to offer.
First, it showed itself in the year 2016, as in its conceptual avatar, and it went by the name of Skoda Vision S. Thereafter, in the year of 2017, Skoda started the production of the SUV and renamed it by the name Skoda Kodiaq.
When asked the officials, it was known that the Kodiaq name had been chosen after being inspired by the KODIAK Bear from the Island of Kodiak, Alaska. This Kodiak bear has a speciality: it is the largest Brown Bear in the world.
The Skoda Kodiaq, being an indirect German, sits on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, over which the VW Tiguan also stands.
It was first brought to India in the year of 2018, and since then, it has been rolling out with yearly updates.
Starting off from the front, it kind of looks lowered. Compared to its previous generation, where it had a very bold and upright grille, which also made it look rugged, this time, the brand has gone with something which is much more detuned. The grille seems to be picked out from its sedan sibling, the Superb. It looks good in its own way, though. Let me explain -
The grille, being softened comparatively, does decrease the sense of rigidity, but it increases the appeal of premium and luxury. Something which I feel the Kodiaq was all about and particularly made for. It was not built to go off-road; rather it was built to bring comfort and an experience. And this is what this new Superb-like grille helps give a fresh start to the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq’s design.
Jumping up top on the hood. The hood might look similar, and to some extent it is. But, it has gone through a slight design update, where Skoda has now crafted the hood in a way that it now tries to blend in with the shape of the overall front.
Coming down to the front’s design, it is more angular and packs that cutting-edge style in design. The angular lines running through the front give the car a better shape, and this boosts the matter of attractiveness of the vehicle.
If you notice at both the lower ends, you might be seeing the example for the remarks “cutting edge style”. At the lower ends, you will see the design kind of scooped in, giving the sides of the vehicle their own individuality. They also kind of work as Air Curtains.
Moving over the lower bumper, the air dams have been re-designed and given a look that suits the whole premium design language that the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq follows. We can also spot one of the ADAS equipment: Front Radar.
The side of the vehicle is almost similar if you look at the front half of it. But, when you move your sight towards the rear half, you see an evident change. Will talk about this later in this point.
Starting from the wheels, the wheels showcased on the model in the pictures measure up to 19 inches. And most probably, Skoda Auto would end up giving the exact size of wheels for its India-bound model, too. If not, then we will be offered with 18-inch wheels.
Going up, the side wheel cladding has been kept similar in terms of its size and appearance. It is not huge, nor is it angular; rather, it flows in a very uniform manner, with minimal edgy turns. The same is the case with the wheel arches; they are simple. They start from the front, climbing up the wheel with a smooth flow, further sliding downwards and moving towards the rear wheel, maintaining the same soothing flow in its design. At last, it climbs up the rear wheel and then wraps itself over the back side of the vehicle. Briefly, the side design has been styled to compliment the premium factor of the vehicle.
Talking of the widow area, it is exactly the same till the C-pillar of the vehicle. But, once moved over to the D-pillar, things seem very different, as said earlier. Basically, unlike the previous generation, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq gets a re-styled D-pillar. The previous generation had nothing but the window border, making an angular shape to appeal to the SUV’s boxy stance. But, this time, the new Kodiaq gets a silver element added, which further adds contrast to the vehicle’s design. This silver element also acts as a transition for the Side widow area and the Rear glass.
The roof line of the vehicle still has been kept slanting from the rear. Which means it will carry on its trait of being uncomfortable at the rear. Still, we expect it to have quite a better vibe and comfort on its rear seats, as it is a new generation of the Skoda Kodiaq.
The Rear of the vehicle, if looked at from a distance, might appear to be similar, as its upper half has a very identical posture compared to its previous generation; the upper half seems seated.
The Rear-view glass of the vehicle is still kept in a slopping stance in order to continue the flow of its roofline. The rear wiper is also present; obviously, being a premium 7-seater SUV, it is necessary.
The Tail lights are something which has been completely redesigned. They still hold that super-edgy and sharp pattern in them, but now they have been connected to each other. So basically, you will see a similar shape used in both ends of the tail lights, but further, they have been given an angle which makes them invert and move further from below, connecting each other.
The lower part of the vehicle has been kept very simple and straightforward. No such angular or stylish bits to increase the overall appeal of the rear.
Overall, this is what the exterior of the new Kodiaq has to offer. Now, let us move on to the Interiors, where a lot has changed, and it is just wow! But, before that, here are the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq’s dimensions, as there is a change in this, too.
The 2024 Skoda Kodiaq’s dimensions have been tweaked a bit in order to make it fresh. The length of the vehicle has been kept to 4.7 metres, the width of the vehicle has been kept at 1.8 metres, the height of the vehicle has been kept to 1.6 metres, whereas the wheelbase of the car has been measured up to 2.7 metres.
The inside of the car is a major upgrade, as almost everything has been refreshed and up-sized. They now do justice to the purpose and the character of the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq. The premium factor has not been compromised anywhere throughout the interiors.
Starting with the Dashboard, it is very angularly stylish. Some excellent angles join up to give an attractive shape to the dashboard. Leather materials and other soft-touch inserts are used extensively to improve the cabin experience. Light brown and Black are the choices of colours which Skoda has opted for the dashboard. Moreover, it is also strategically crafted in a way so that it could fit in every selected technological equipment on it.
The Infotainment system is a feature-rich unit, wherein, there is a completely new UI, which in fact, is easier to read & understand. A new in-built navigation system is also available, and wireless support of Apple Car Play and Android Auto is standard. About the Instrument Cluster being completely digital, it is obviously very evident that the speed dials could be customized according to the presets on offer.
Coming lower down, the AC vents have been re-designed, too. A more present and visually appealing design has been used, which goes with the interior look and feel very well.
The talk of the town are those Climate control dials or Multifunctional dials. The dials shown in the picture project the climate control system on the 1st and the 3rd dial, but the middle one projects the volume function. That is what is amazing! Those dials can be used for both the Climate Control system and Media Controls and for the Selection of Terrain modes.
Below them, we can see two USB-C ports for your convenience, and from there, the centre console starts. In which there is a wireless pad for a start, following a hidden compartment, and then the armrest place last.
Coming to the Steering wheel, Skoda has decided to carry on its steering wheel trend of having a two-spoke unit. Well, it does suit the style and look of the interior, but Skoda could have done a bit better; maybe a different one this time.
The rest of the interior contains leatherette seats, which also have ventilation functions in them ( Front seats only ). The 2024 Skoda Kodiaq’s seating option goes with two criteria on offer - 5 Seats and 7 Seats. The Indian-bound new 2024 Skoda Kodiaq will have the 7-seater as standard.
Well, internationally, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq will get a slew of powertrain options, but the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq India version will just have one engine option - a 2.0 l, Petrol engine, which will produce 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque.
Well, if this new 2024 Skoda Kodiaq debuted itself, then it might take quite some time for Skoda to bring this new avatar of its full-size SUV, Kodiaq, to India. We presume the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq India debut will take place next year, 2024, most probably in the 2nd or 3rd quarter.
