The Volkswagen-Skoda Group had been quiet for some time in the Indian market but, now, they have started making movements with the preparations to launch their upcoming sub-4-meter SUV, the Skoda Kylaq. The Kylaq is a “Skoda” SUV from the Volkswagen-Skoda group and will be launched before Volkswagen’s iteration of the same. As the Kylaq is nearing its launch date, it was recently spied in Maharashtra, where the Skoda Kylaq’s Base model was being tested.

In the first image, it would get Halogen Headlamps, which will be given in a split design format, unlike any other Skoda SUV currently in the Indian market. We can also see 16-inch Steel rims with black wheel covers and not many wheel arches can be seen, though we expect wheel claddings to be present for a greater feel of the SUV. 

In the second image, we can see that the Kylaq Base model will not be offered with Rear Wiper and washer. We also believe that there is no rear defogger on offer but, it cannot be presumed, as the image is not as clear to notice. 

In the third image, we can see that the window borderline of the Skoda Kylaq base model will get a simple black plastic treatment. Usually, we have seen either glossy black or chrome treatment done on the window borderline of Skoda SUVs. Moreover, we can also see fake roof rails on offer, which will not be able to carry any weight, and will be used only for design purposes. 

On the Inside, we can see that, the features on offer confirm that - it is the base model of the Kylaq. We can see that it will not get any sort of screen or music player, unlike Kushaq and Slavia’s Classic variant (base model), which gets a small infotainment screen. Secondly, it will offer the basic two dials (Speedometer and Tachometer with Engine Temperature and Fuel Guage) for the instrument Cluster with a small MID for vehicle and trip details. 

Moreover, it also shows that the Kylaq will be the first sub-4-meter SUV to offer a 6-speed Manual gearbox from its Base model. Moreover, the usual Two-spoke Skoda steering wheel can be seen carried forward in the Kylaq, as well. As this is the base model, it offers Fabric seats, which would have reclining and sliding adjustments only. We can also see that it offers a Manual handbrake with small storage. The Kylaq’s base model will offer Manual Climate Controls. 

Skoda Kylaq Base Model Details

Skoda Kylaq will be based on the same platform, the MQB A India, as its elder sibling - Skoda Kushaq. This platform will be trimmed a bit to cater to the mandated length restriction in the sub-4-meter SUV segment. No major changes will made to the SUV, as it would result in a price increase. 

The Kylaq will only offer the smallest Volkswagen-Skoda engine option in the Indian market, which is the 1.0 L TSI Petrol engine. This engine produces 114 hp and 178 Nm torque, and it comes mated to either a 6-speed Manual Gearbox or a 6-speed Automatic Torque Converter Gearbox. This engine will only be the one offered throughout the range of the Skoda Kylaq. 

Except for the above features in the Kylaq’s Base model, we believe that Skoda would offer a few more features, like a small sunroof, front and rear armrests, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, a big Infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, LED Headlamps, boot space above 300 litres, etc. 

Skoda Kylaq Launch Date and Expected Price 

The Skoda Kylaq is set to be revealed globally on 6 November 2024. The launch could happen in the initial 2025 period. Skoda Kylaq could be priced a bit higher - our expectation is ₹10.5 Lakhs - than its rivals for two reasons; it offers a bit more features & power, and it is a Skoda-Volkswagen car after all.
