A delight to Indian Auto enthusiasts was launched by the German Auto Giant - Volkswagen about
13 years ago. This car was a Hatchback, which did not rule its segment, but it did pack a thing, which clearly made it superior to any other Hatchback in the segment. Yes, I am talking about the legendary Volkswagen Polo for India.
Well, are you wondering why I am using ‘did’? Then, it is because the Volkswagen Polo was discontinued in the year 2022 in India. It was clearly an unfortunate decision that VW had to take. Sure, it did not sell any good, but at least it had something that could give meaning to the ‘Premium Hatchback’ segment in India.
Anyways, Volkswagen also had something crazy related to the Polo. Though it never made it to the Indian shores, if it had been launched, then maybe we would have had a reason not to look at those beastly BMWs or Mercedes Benzs. Yep, you heard it right, I am talking about the Volkswagen Golf GTI or Volkswagen Polo GTI.
The GTI had the kick to bring in an Adrenaline Rush in your nerves. A 1.8 L, TSI, Inline 4 Cylinder - Petrol engine , producing 190 hp & 250 Nm of Torque, and this was it! Which could make you feel airborne within a matter of seconds. But, it is unfortunate that it is currently running its last ICE generation, which means that it won’t be continuing with its brutal 1.8 L Petrol engine. Rather than this, VW has decided to do something that no enthusiast really appreciates or likes. What is it, you wonder? Then, it is nothing but an electrified version of the Golf GTI named Volkswagen ID. GTI.
Well, okay, we accept it. But, even if we do, has it got the ability to carry forward the carnivore-like trait in it? To answer this - We believe Yes!
Though this is a concept, still, let us take a deep dive into this new VW ID. GTI, and see what it could pack to serve the enthusiasts.
The overall body structure has been kept identical to what it looked like earlier. This, by the way, is a great touch, which means even after making it electrified, there is not much change in that illustrious design.
The front of the ID. GTI has been kept very similar, with that sleek LED bar holding the bold Volkswagen logo and the lower bumper containing the Air dams. But, there have been a few bits added and introduced to make it look fresher than before.
Like the Headlamps, they have been cut down to one single LED beam, which sits above the concave LED DRL and below the LED strip, further giving it an aggressive face. Lower down at both ends; more DRLs have been included, this time vertically standing strips. Other than these changes, the rest of the front is identical to what it looked like earlier.
The Side of the New Polo of the car has been kept sharp at some points, like the D-Pillar. The images show no rear door handles but do not forget this is a concept, so the production-ready version might have them; chances are high.
We can also see that the wheels it sits on are bigger, and the overall body has been lowered for better High-speed stability.
The traditional side wheel arches have also been carried forward in the Volkswagen ID. GTI, just to make the car look bigger in terms of its presence.
The car's rear now consists of a spoiler with air curtains in it. We can also see that the rear spoiler housing extends further to its side and goes lower to the Rearview window. Which ultimately covers the whole glass from the sides.
The Tail lamps have also been tweaked, as now they tend to follow the trend of a long LED strip, which covers both ends of the Rear. Talking of the tail lamps a bit more, they contain four LED cubes, two on each side. We believe one of the cubes on each side would also have the indicating function.
The lower bumper at the rear now consists of two boxy-like design elements, which are believed to be turned into rear diffusers in the production-ready model.
The car's interiors were not showcased in flesh, but a contextual sketch was shown by the Automaker, where we could see that the dashboard would flow uniformly, covering both sides of the interior. The front glass would also have the HUD feature to facilitate the driver. Two screens have been added for more benefits to the driver. The steering wheel has also been redesigned, where the central part - in which the horn is placed - now gets separated from its side provisions containing steering-mounted controls. We can see that the pedals also get ‘Play’ & ‘Pause’ icons for the Accelerator and the Brake, respectively.
No information on batteries has been disclosed. Thus, we do not know any.
No details on its launch have been revealed, and we assume it would take about 2 - 3 years from now for the ID. GTI to make it international markets.
India launch of the Volkswagen ID. GTI is very sensitive; we suggest not even keeping any hope.
