This 2Cr beast SUV is bigger than Defender, G Wagon - India Launch, Price and Features

March 19th, 2025

You might have seen some videos of the WWE Star, the Great Khali, standing beside a Toyota Fortuner, and simply making it look like an Alto. Well, it seems that GMC has the exact SUV for Khali, which is the GMC Hummer EV. An SUV to whom “enormous” is an understatement, an SUV that redefines the definition of “SUV” in our minds. The GMC Hummer might not carry practicality and feasibility in its name, but it sure does carry Ultra Pro Max Machoness in its name. Here is everything you need to know about the mammoth GMC Hummer EV’s India launch and Price.

About the GMC Hummer EV

Originally developed as a civilian version of the military-grade Humvee, the Hummer H1 made its debut in 1992, and was followed by the more refined and humanised version, the H2 in 2002 and the smaller, more city-friendly H3 in 2005.

These SUVs were known for their aggressive looks, extreme off-road ability, and gas-guzzling engines that defined American SUVs. The Hummer was sold in markets like the United States, Canada, and the Middle East, where its sheer size and presence made it a status symbol. Rivaling other full-size SUVs like the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Toyota Land Cruiser, the Hummer held a unique place in the segment.

However, with rising fuel prices and increasing concerns over environmental impact, General Motors (GM) pulled the plug on the Hummer brand in 2010, marking the end of an era for the iconic SUV.

GMC Hummer EV Exteriors

The new GMC Hummer EV’s design language resembles the old Hummer, as it carries the tall, broad, and Heavy stance of the SUV. Upfront, it has six thick slats between the two LED Headlamps, these slats also hold the Hummer lettering. An LED DRL bar also runs through these slats, connecting the headlamps. The lower half of the front fascia is filled with rugged glossy black bumpers with some thick metal bash plates for off-roading protection. It also gets two heavy-duty hooks at the front for rescuing purposes. Lastly, the overall design of the Hummer from the front is unlike any other SUV, as it exposes the front tyres, thanks to its higher ground clearance.

The Side Profile is, again, tall with ruggedness all around its design. It runs on 22’ alloy wheels, which, despite its size, look way too small because of the mighty 305-section tyres. The Wheel Claddings are decent, but the Arches are thick and muscular with an angular design. The Window area of the Hummer EV appears to be smaller because of its tall and wide stance.

The Rear end has a very minimal design that does not look insignificant, again, thanks to its massive road presence. The Hummer EV gets a tailgate-mounted spare wheel with the same kind of design as the front— tall stance with exposed wheel tyres. Just looks too manly! It also gets one hook similar to that at the front end.

GMC Hummer EV Interiors

The GMC Hummer Electric SUV brings back the legendary nameplate but in a completely modern and futuristic avatar. Inside, the cabin is a blend of premium materials and cutting-edge technology, unlike the old Hummers.

The dashboard is dominated by a 13.4’ Infotainment screen that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and in-built Google services. Right behind the chunky steering wheel, there's a 12.3’ Instrument Cluster, which provides real-time data like battery range, power distribution, off-road telemetry, and navigation.

The Infinity Roof with removable transparent Sky Panels adds an open-air experience, making it perfect for adventure enthusiasts. The Seats are wrapped in premium Leather, and the driver’s seat gets Electric adjustability with Memory function. It gets Ventilated seats with a Heating function, while the Rear seats offer 60/40 split-folding capability for enhanced practicality.

The premium Bose sound system with 14 speakers makes the in-cabin experience immersive. Other features include a multi-zone Automatic Climate Control system, Heads-up display (HUD), a 360-degree Camera System with UltraVision (featuring up to 18 camera views, including underbody cameras for off-roading convenience), Ambient lighting, and a Wireless Charging pad. The Hummer Electric SUV also gets Super Cruise, a semi-autonomous hands-free driving assist system that works on mapped highways, further enhancing its futuristic appeal.

GMC Hummer EV Powertrain

The GMC Hummer EV SUV is built on GM’s advanced Ultium platform. The top-spec EV3X variant boasts a triple-motor setup, delivering a staggering 830 hp and 1,450 Nm of torque. This immense power allows it to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds despite weighing 4 tonnes, making it one of the fastest full-size electric SUVs in the world.

The SUV is equipped with a high-capacity battery pack, offering a real-world range of up to 500 km on a single charge. It supports fast charging up to 300 kW, allowing an 80% charge in just 30 minutes when plugged into a DC charger. Off-road enthusiasts will love its CrabWalk feature, which uses 4-wheel steering to move diagonally, along with the Extract Mode, which raises the SUV by 6 inches for extreme terrain clearance.

GMC Hummer EV Pricing & India Launch

The base model of the GMC Hummer Electric SUV starts at around $79,995 in the United States, while the fully loaded EV3X trim goes up to $110,295. When converted to Indian currency, the starting price translates to approximately ₹66.5 lakh, while the top-end variant would cost around ₹91.7 lakh (excluding import duties and taxes). When we add taxes and import duties, the estimated price would start from ₹1.3 Cr and would go up to ₹2 Cr.

While there are no official plans for an India launch, enthusiasts and collectors have still imported a few through private exotic car dealers.
