No doubt, Electric Mobility is our future, but we should also be thinking about the fact that it would not be as easy as we think to switch over to EVs. We need a proper, convincing transition. And maybe, Tata Motors is up to creating one for us.

Meet the 2023 Tata Nexon.ev (Tata Nexon EV Facelift), which we believe is that one Electric car which surely has the ability to make our Minds, Souls, and Hearts switch over to EVs. And the reason we show confidence in saying that is because of the Nexon.ev, it packs the right characteristics to make this a vast and one responsible change.

Therefore, in this article, we will take a deep dive into the details of this product.

Changes

We think, before heading our way towards the details of this EV, we shall make ourselves known about what kinds of changes have been given to this facelift over the pre-facelift model.

Design

The first change is with the design; it has now been crafted more Subtle, Sharp, and Modern.

Subtle

What do we mean by that? Basically, earlier Nexon EV used to look good, but without that excessive use of ‘Blue’ color inserts, which were added just to make it look different from its ICE version. We mean, it is good to highlight our movement toward a Green future, but it doesn’t mean that you would indicate that by throwing unnecessary and unwanted design bits.

Fortunately though, the 2023 Nexon.ev facelift has picked a more subtle approach, as said earlier. No unnecessary Blue color inserts, No unnecessary design bits, and most importantly, a much-needed design change.

It now holds a uniformity, which distinguishes the Nexon.ev from the ICE Nexon. It packs subtle design elements like the stripes below the Head Lamps, and in the Lower Bumper. In fact, Martin Ulharik, Chief Designer at Tata Motors, said that from now on, this particular design element will be acting as the new identity to all Tata.ev vehicles. 

Further, it is very similar to the ICE Nexon, in terms of its design, but there is one more change, which will help us identify the Nexon.ev - It is the new White color introduced, which has a green tint on it. Martin Ulharik also mentioned that this particular color will be the signature of Tata.ev vehicles.

Sharp

The Sharpness in the design of the Nexon.ev indicates its evolution. Earlier, where it used to have curves in its design; now, it rather packs sharp, yet attractive design elements. These elements could be noticeable at the Front and at the Back. 

And in fact, Tata Nexon & Nexon.ev, are the first Tata vehicles to get this new-age Tata design.

Modern

The Modernness of the car has been focused a lot by its makers. The officials said that, according to their survey, Nexon EV was more preferred by Tech driven people; therefore, Modern Technology has not been compromised anywhere over the car.

The Five key aspects

The makers of the Nexon.ev wanted to make this car a Game changer for the market. Thus, to do this, they surely needed something to be the ‘Pivot of the changing process’. And the ‘Pivot of the changing process’ were these five aspects -

The Game-Changing - Efficiency

Well, the Efficiency aspect consists of two components, which further directs us to one utilitarian result. 

First, Second Gen Motor - This is basically an upgrade, which has been made to the old Motor which was on-use in the Nexon EV. And what they have done with this new one is - 

• Reduced the Weight by 20 kgs

• Overall smaller Package

• Reduced Dependence on Rare Earth Metals

• Magnets reduced by 30%

Second change, Aerodynamically efficient Design - This involves a completely new approach in terms of its design language. Where the brand has tried to put in Good Looks, as well as, Functional bits. Such as -

• Plastic wheel inserts

• Air Curtains

• Re-engineered Rear spoiler

• Aerodynamically better

Hence, all these factors results in this product, where you could be getting an enhanced Driving Range of about 465 Kms for the Long range variant; and 325 Kms for the Medium range variant .

The Game-Changing - PERFORMANCE

With all these Mechanical upgrades, the result has leaned on to the advancement of Performance. The lighter Motor, and Aerodynamic Design, they help the car accelerate more faster, than it used to earlier. If to talk precisely, then -

• 0 - 100 Km per Hr could be achieved in just 8.9 seconds

• Top Speed has been raised up to 150 Km per Hr

Though these are performance-related details about the EV, but what about the one, who actually juts out this performance? Well, to answer this, then actually there has been an enhancement in terms of much needed features of the Battery, like -

• 7.2 kW Charging plug is now standard in both the variants

• Paddle Shifters are now dedicated for the Re-generation feature of the Nexon.ev

• V2L (Vehicle to Load) Charging option has been added

• V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) Charging option has been introduced

About V2L, basically it means that now you can use your Nexon.ev to power any kind of Electric dependent device, which by the way, for your information, includes devices like a House, or maybe any Big or Small Electric Device.

On the other hand, V2V, means that now Nexon.ev is capable of charging any kind of Electric vehicle with the help of its battery. Therefore, you can use it to charge any other dead Nexon.ev or maybe some other Electric Vehicle.

These two features, V2L, and V2V, make the Nexon.ev the first Indian car to have it.

The Game-Changing - SAFETY

There is no need to have a chat on Nexon’s safety standards, because we all know that it already has been established as the ‘Gold Standard of Safety’. Still, with respect to the Nexon.ev, let us have a glimpse of what is on offer.

• 6 Airbags as standard

• ABS with EBS as standard

• High Strength steel used in the Body structure for improved built

• ISO fix mounts on the seats

• Electronic Parking brake with Auto Hold

• All Four Disc brakes

• Hill Ascent control

The Game-Changing - TECHNOLOGY

As we mentioned earlier, Tata Motors conducted a survey, which stated that a majority of EV buyers are concentrated towards the Tech driven crowd. This further states that they usually tend to have their time being spent significantly more in their EVs after their house. Therefore, they would need a product which could have their experience be ‘Homely’ while being in it.

So, in order to include it in the Nexon.ev, Tata Motors have opted for a clean interface, for both the Interiors, and the Technological aspects. Where the brand has gone for a clever, and easy to understand UI for the both the screens. 

Further talking about the screens, they also pack a total of 4 Voice assistants -

• Hey Tata

• Alexa

• Hey Siri

• OK Google

Plus, they have also made an inclusion of a total of 7 languages for all the Voice assistance features - English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil & Telugu. These voices can be used for more than 200+ commands. 

Adding more to it, usually, customers have to update their vehicular systems by visiting the particular Service Centre, but with the Nexon.ev, Tata Motors have provided access to update the technology by OTA (Over The Air).

They have also updated Tata’s iRA connect app, through which you can now be informed of more Details, and Alerts regarding your Nexon.ev.

We also are aware - that an experience is not just created with the help of visual essence but also with a pleasing Audio involvement. The Nexon.ev gets a 9 speaker JBL sound system, which is also customizable according to your likes of hearing the Music. All of this could be done through the 12.25 inch Infotainment screen. Now, this we think, is a Sheer experience!

And not only this, if Music is not the kind of Sheer experience you are looking for, then you have got that 12.25 inch screen itself. Because that screen packs the accessibility to almost any of the OTT platforms, which means they could be downloaded and watched through the screen itself. Well, this is even cooler!

The Game-Changing - MANUFACTURING CAPABILITIES

Speaking of the manufacturing capabilities, then there is nothing much about this to be known to because all of it is related to the advancements in the technological aspect used for manufacturing their cars.

Variants

Now, coming on to the variants, Tata Motors has decided to individualize  their Tata.ev sector more. And this is being further focused on by adding an .ev specific variant - Empowered. This variant will only be available in the Tata.ev line of cars. This variant is specifically made for those who expect more from their EVs, in terms of everything. There has also been introduced a color option - Empowered Oxide, which we talked about earlier. This has been done to give this variant its own identity.

Launch

The Tata Nexon.ev will be in your nearby Dealerships after 14 September 2023. And as it will launch on 14th September, its prices have not been revealed yet.
