Global NCAP has been testing cars for the Indian market for quite a while now but for the past 3-4 years, Indians have been putting a lot more focus on Safety and want as many safety features as possible, so here is a list of the Top 10 Safest Cars in India Tested by Global NCAP
Disclaimer: These reports are taken from the tests conducted by the Global NCAP. We are aware of the Bharat NCAP’s arrival, but the Bharat NCAP has not yet tested its first vehicle. Thereafter, we will be focusing on the tests conducted by the Global NCAP, with all the updated preventive measures taken.
Like the Bharat NCAP, G NCAP, too, has its own set of rules. To be comparative, they are not as different from the Bharat NCAP. To speak of them, 6 Airbags are mandatory in every variant of the particular car, ABS with EBD should also be standard, and Seatbelt reminders should also be included in every variant. If, in case, any of these factors are missing in any particular, then that car will have to be degraded in terms of the missing elements. This, overall, affects the result of the car which was tested.
Secondly, a car is awarded points on the basis of Adult Safety Ratings, where 34.00 points are the highest, and in Child Safety Ratings, 49.00 points are the highest.
There are many more protocols, but the ones mentioned above are the most important.
We shall start from the bottom, as the top ones should be given some respect and suspense for being the safest.
The most intelligent car made by any Indian car manufacturer to date is the Mahindra XUV700. It blew people's minds with technology, which no one had heard of. Well, we are not talking about the gimmicky technology; we are mentioning the tech used for the safety systems. It was declared the safest car a few months after its launch event until the Germans took it away; we will discuss this further.
The Mahindra XUV700 scored 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings, as it got 16.03 points, and scored 4 stars in the Child Safety Ratings, as it scored 41.66 points.
These tests were conducted before the arrival of new G NCAP protocols. So, these ratings might not sound enough, but they were immense with respect to the old protocols. In fact, according to the old protocols, the maximum number of points that could be received in the Adult Safety Ratings was 17 points, and in the Child Safety Ratings, it was 49 points.
Tata Nexon was the first Indian to ever score 5 stars in the Global NCAP Crash test. That time, it was hailed for this performance, and since then, the Nexon has consistently been people’s favorite.
The Nexon scored 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings; to be numerical, it was able to achieve 16.06 points. Speaking of the Child Safety Ratings, it scored 3 stars; in numbers, it achieved 25.00 points.
However, there is one thing to note: This particular Nexon is not the one that was recently unveiled by Tata Motors in the name of the 2023 Tata Nexon Facelift. So, ultimately, it does not consist of essential features with respect to G NCAP’s protocols, and that is the reason why the Nexon is positioned so low in the table; well, at least, number 9 is low with respect to the Nexon’s standards.
Well, let me tell you that you are going to see cars from this particular brand a lot. Tata Motors has been and will be one of the safest car brands in the world, and Tata Altroz is just another example of it. Tata Altroz is the safest hatchback in its segment. It should praised because in a segment where there was once a Volkswagen Polo, it still managed to be the safest of all.
Tata Altroz, too, scored 5 stars in the Adult Safety ratings, gaining 16.13 points and 3 stars in the Child Safety Ratings by scoring 29.00 points.
These tests were conducted before the arrival of new G NCAP protocols. So, these ratings might not sound enough, but they were immense with respect to the old protocols. In fact, according to the old protocols, the maximum number of points which could be received in the Adult Safety Ratings was 17 points, and in the Child Safety Ratings, it was 49 points.
Next comes the Mahindra XUV300, a car from the same segment where Nexon dominates. Mahindra XUV300 was Mahindra’s first 5-star SUV. It showcased the clear-cut image of the brand’s robust build quality.
Mahindra XUV300 was awarded 5 stars after gaining 16.42 points in the Adult Safety Ratings, and in the Child Safety Ratings, it scored 4 stars after achieving 41.66 points.
These tests were conducted before the arrival of new GNCAP protocols. So, these ratings might not sound enough, but they were immense with respect to the old protocols. In fact, according to the old protocols, the maximum number of points that could be received in the Adult Safety Ratings was 17 points, and in the Child Safety Ratings, it was 49 points.
Tata Punch was the last vehicle that was tested under the old GNCAP protocols. After several months of Punch’s tests, protocols were revised according to modern safety standards.
Tata Punch is just another example of a brutal car in terms of its build quality; though people call it an SUV, believe us, it is not. Punch’s crash tests helped the car to gain a great start right after its launch. Obviously, having an ultra-safe car at an affordable price range is very convincing.
Tata Punch received 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings, as it got 16.45 points, and scored 4 stars in the Child Safety Ratings, as it got 40.89 points.
Note:
From here, all the vehicles which will be mentioned were tested under the latest G NCAP protocols, by which we mean that from now the maximum number of points that could be scored is 34.00 points for the Adult Safety Ratings and 49.00 points for the Child Safety Ratings. So, these vehicles could be considered blindly.
The only true Family SUV from an Indian brand holds the Fifth spot. The Scorpio-N is not only amazing because of the status and image it carries with itself, but also it is an amazing vehicle because it is one of the safest vehicles you could get in India.
The Mahindra Scorpio N scored 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings by gaining 29.25 points and 3 stars in the Child Safety Ratings after scoring 28.93 points .
Next up is the most unexpected, never-imagined brand, which is holding the Fourth spot. Hyundai Verna, man, honestly, no one thought that this brand could even make it up to the top 10, but it has made its place in the top 5. For this, Hyundai should undoubtedly be appreciated.
Hyundai Verna is the Third safest sedan and the First vehicle in India to ever bring 5 stars in both Child and Adult Safety Ratings.
It gained 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings after scoring 28.18 points and 5 stars in the Child Safety Ratings, too, after getting 42.00 points .
The German strength finally showed what it was capable of. The Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq, basically sisters, hold the Third spot in this table.
Both vehicles scored 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings by achieving 29.64 points and 5 stars in the Child Safety Ratings by scoring 42.00 points .
We are sorry, but there is no place for any other brand, as the Germans have again hit a shot. After the third spot, they have clinched the Second spot as well. This time, it is done by their Taigun / Kushaq SUV’s sedan versions, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.
Both sedans scored 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings, gaining 29.71 points , and 5 stars in the Child Safety Ratings, getting 42.00 points .
Okay, then, it is time for the finalists or the new safest vehicles in India, the 2023 Tata Harrier Facelift and the 2023 Tata Safari Facelift. Earlier, there were speculations that the Harrier and the Safari were not safe due to some engineering flaw in their design, but we think now these results are enough to know what is what.
So, both these vehicles scored the highest scores in the history of G NCAP’s India unit. They scored 5 stars in the Adult Safety Ratings by gaining 33.05 points and scored 5 stars in the Child Safety Ratings, as well, by gaining 45.00 points .
