When the Bharat NCAP was announced, it was celebrated all across the Indian Automobile Industry. The Bharat NCAP was nothing less than an achievement. Of course, it will be very useful and appropriate for the Indian Road Safety needs. It is assumed that Bharat NCAP is probable to launch its first car crash test result very soon. So, as per this good news, let us recall all the important points and benefits we, as consumers, will be availed of. Here is today’s topic: Bharat NCAP to release its first Test Results in late December 2023.
Bharat NCAP is nothing different than Global NCAP, except for the set of protocols it chooses to follow. These protocols or rules are set as per the precautionary requirements for Indian Road Safety.
The selection of the cars is a very simple process, with not much of a complex path. Basically, all the vehicles or cars, to be specific, that lie under the M1 category are allowed to undergo this crash test. These vehicles can also be known as the ones that can carry up to 8 passengers and weigh under 3.5 tones. Moreover, they should also be currently manufactured or imported into the country for sale purposes; discontinued models are ineligible.
The next step is the key factor, as it totally depends on the car maker whether to apply for this test or not. Basically, if a car maker wants to test any of its car models, it will have to first nominate that particular car for the test. Once their nomination is accepted, Bharat NCAP officials will visit the particular manufacturer's facility and select any base model of that car out of its bunch.
Lastly, the selected base model of that car will be sent to the respective Bharat NCAP test facility. Over there, it will undergo various kinds of crash tests. Dummy models of the Humans will be used in order to rate the crash performance of that car. Then, a summation of all the test scores will be made, and at the end, the car will be awarded with deserving stars out of 5 stars.
In addition, a Certificate and the details regarding the crash performance will be uploaded on Bharat NCAP’s website.
It is quite tough to answer this one, as both programs are nearly similar. They contain a set of identical protocols, so it would be rare to see a different result for a car in Bharat NCAP compared to the one in G NCAP.
Still, we will not have a concrete claim on this, as, after all, these two programs are different at the end of the day. Hence, a marginal difference in their result will not be surprising.
It is not sure yet. But, with respect to the recent social media shares made by the official handle of Bharat NCAP, it seems that the first car that will get awarded for its crash test at B NCAP might either be the 2024 Kia Sonet or the 2024 Tata Punch Facelift.
Secondly, when this program was launched, about a few months ago, we were told by the B NCAP officials that almost 30 car nominations were already made. So, once this program starts, it is sure that we will get to see a series of crash tests on various cars available in the Indian Automobile Market today.
