The news of Ford making a comeback in India is at its peak as Ford has recently patented the 2024 New Micro SUV which looks similar to the one Ford and Mahindra made in collaboration. But the bigger headline is Ford may be seeking a potential collaboration with Tata Motors for India's comeback, so let's see how this will work out.

Ford and Tata Collaboration

With all the excitement behind Ford’s re-entry into India, some speculations state that the big American Car manufacturer might collaborate with an Indian Car manufacturer to operate its business here in India. Now, unlike Mitsubishi’s collaboration with TVS Mobility, Ford might collaborate with an in-operation brand in India. The same speculations further state that the brand with which Ford might collaborate could be none other than Tata Motors. 

How will Tata's partnership in India work?

Ford, before exiting India, had two plants. After it exited India, it sold one of its plants based in Gujarat to Tata Motors for ₹725 Cr. But, the other plant which is based in Chennai, Ford cancelled the plans to sell it.

Now, Ford might collaborate with Tata Motors to launch cars in India through the Gujarat plant. How, you ask? So, Ford could come to an agreement with Tata Motors, where they could work in a Joint venture. This Ford and Tata Motors collaboration might make Tata Motors produce Ford’s affordable segment cars in India, as then, they would not have to make big Investments in their Chennai plant. 

So, this could mean that Ford might use the plant in Chennai to assemble or manufacture its premium cars in India, as it has already filed its Mustang Mach E’s patent in India, and Ford has also filed a patent for its Ford Endeavour in India. Hence, Ford could use it to assemble these cars or manufacture them with the help of this plant. 

What Cars would the Ford and Tata Collaboration Launch?

Ford and Tata Motors' collaboration sounds like a very strong game plan for Ford to succeed in India, this time. Still, we shall not forget that these are still rumors. But, what if Ford and Tata Motors collaborate, then what kind of Ford cars we could expect in India?

There is one somewhat true rumor, which says that now, Ford will concentrate more on EVs in India. Well, this is a good plan, as India is scaling rapidly in terms of EV sales, then be it in affordable class or premium class. But, if Ford happens to produce affordable EVs with Tata Motors, then we could see a lot of good and capable EVs from the brand. Tata Motors already is the pioneer in the EV industry of India, so it will help Ford even more in producing good EVs for the country. 

About Ford’s ICE cars, then we might not see much of new ICE cars from Ford. The most probable ones would be the new 2024 Ford EcoSport, the new 2024 Ford Endeavour, etc. As Ford has already filed patents for these two cars, these cars are sure to enter India.
