Kia Tasman Pickup Truck to be unveiled on 29 Oct - Toyota Hilux Rival

October 26th, 2024

Kia Tasman is Kia’s first entry-level premium Pickup truck which will rival the like of Toyota Hilux. Kia already has plenty of SUVs in its lineup, out of which, the Telluride is from the Fortuner’s segment. Kia has been internationally launching plenty of SUVs/Cars in order to keep their fleet updated and to cater to new customers, too.

The Kia Tasman is such a product that will help Kia target an affordable segment of premium SUVs and Pickup Trucks. The Tasman, when launched will mainly focus on the markets where the demand is high for such rugged Pickup Trucks. The Tasman will cater to the Australian, Korean, African, and Middle East markets. At first, it will launched in the Korean market only, and then expand to other mentioned ones.

The Tasman will be globally premiered on 29 October 2024 worldwide. After that, it will be globally released in the initial 2025 phase, mostly Q1 or Q2 of 2025.

The Tasman is expected to be priced a bit higher than its key rival - the Toyota Hilux. Being a Kia Pickup Truck, there is no doubt that the Tasman will be rich in features and will also try to match the incredible off-road capabilities of the Hilux. We expect the Tasman to be priced somewhere in ₹45 - 50 lakh range, as it will be very convincing for the potential customers to buy.

Kia Tasman Design and Engine Specs

As of now, Kia has just released a few camouflaged models of the Tasman on the internet. Based on these images, we have learnt that the Tasman will be unlike any other Kia SUV. It will have a lot of boxy elements throughout its body and will have chunky wheel arches for greater road presence. The wheel sizes are unknown but, based on the images, we believe they are of 18-inches with thick tyres. The Tasman will get a typical Kia Headlamp design, in which, the LED beams will be stacked upon each other, like in the EV9, Telluride, etc.

The Front end will be straight and will also consist of big air intakes for better breathing for the engine. The Tasman will be a full-size Pickup Truck with a second row of seats, though the second row seems to be a bit crunched, as it looks to have minimal space compared to the front. The Luggage bed is long and will be useful for carrying luggage. Kia will also offer a lot of genuine accessories for better practicality and convenience for the luggage bed’s usage.

The Tasman is expected to have the same 2.2 L Diesel engine from the Carnival that produces 190 hp and 440 Nm torque. We expect Kia to tune this engine according to the purpose of the Tasman as a Pickup Truck.

Except for this engine, there are chances that Kia might also offer its 3.8 L V6 Petrol engine that produces 291 hp and 362 Nm torque. This engine is available with an 8-speed Automatic Gearbox and can tow up to 2.5 tonnes. It is already serving as the standard engine option on the Telluride in the American market.

Tested over 18,000 times!

To speak more about the Tasman, based on the press releases made by Kia on Tasman - The brand claims that they have done about 18,000 rounds of testing in order to make sure that the Pickup truck performs ruggedly in various terrain conditions. Moreover, Kia has also mentioned that these 18,000 rounds of testing have been done in the form of 1777 specific tests.
