A few months ago, JSW announced that it was going to buy a major stake in MG India’s operation. Thus, making the MG India company, a fully Indian firm. Well, it seems they have finally started the job, as JSW MG just showcased its upcoming sports car in India, the MG Cyberster. It is supposed to go head-on against the upcoming Porsche 718 EV. This will also be MG’s most expensive car in India, and also its first supercar in India. It will also commence a new segment of affordable convertible sports cars, in which, it will be the first one. So, let us get into today’s topic to know more about MG Cyberster’s India launch and India pricing.
It was reported on April 25, 2023, when a joint venture between these two companies was official in the papers. It was fixed that, a major 51% stake would be held by various Indian firms or businesses, which, JSW stepped forward and bought the major stake of 35% out of those 51%. Due to this joint venture, MG Motor is now renamed JSW MG Motor.
JSW, recently, organized an event, where they showcased some upcoming JSW MG cars, and also some cars to showcase the technologically advanced projects of MG sold around the world. One of those cars was the MG Cyberster, which has the highest chance of making it to India.
On the front, the Cyberster gets a low-placed nose, with big MG logo attached. It gets four front parking sensors with a front unit of the 360* camera system. It does not get a front grille, as it is an EV, but it still get some fake grille design to add some sportiness into the design. The Headlamps get a petal design, with three LED DRLs, and an LED beams.
On the Sides, the Cyberster’s key factor which is the convertible look shines bright. It gets two differently sized wheels - For the front set of wheels, the Cyberster gets 245 / 40 sectioned 20’ alloy wheels, on the other hand, the rear set of wheels on the Cyberster gets 275 / 35 sectioned 20’ alloy wheels. The design of the alloy wheels is very smooth and sharp. It gets a total of seven curved spokes, with one of them colored in Red for a sporty look.
It is a sports car, it doesn’t get any sort of wheel claddings, but it does get some thick wheel arches. These wheel arches also make a wavy design for the shoulders of the Cyberster, further, making it look a beautiful design. We can also see a scoop made for the hidden door handles.
The Rear of the Cyberster is very unique, especially, when we talk about its Tail lamps. It gets a connected LED tail lamp, with big arrow-like designed indicators for both sides. It also gets a serious wind diffuser treatment on the rear. The Cyberster being an EV, it does not get an exhaust, of course.
Inside the cabin of the MG Cyberster, it gets a total of three connected curved screens for the Infotainment and Instrument cluster, the middle one being the Instrument cluster. These three screens would be 10’ each. It also gets a few touch-sensitive buttons for quick use of some features.
On the Center console, the Drive selectors are given in the form of buttons. Besides the drive selectors, it also gets a secondary touch screen, which operates all the functionalities inside the cabin, like the Climate control, Ventilation features, Volume, etc. Below that, it also gets three buttons to operate the closing and opening of its roof. The entire dashboard and rest of the interiors is completely wrapped with Red leatherette, hence giving a premium touch.
The MG Cyberster gets a 77 kWh battery pack producing up to 550 hp and 730 Nm of Torque, accelerating the EV from 0 - 100 km per hour within 3.2 seconds. It also gets an AWD variant. Overall, it drives up to 580 km on a full charge.
It also gets a 64 kWh battery pack producing up to 308 hp, and driving up to 450 km on a full charge.
The Cyberster will most probably launch in India by the end of 2024 or in early 2025. The Cyberster will be first launched in the International markets by mid-2024.
The price of the MG Cyberster, when launched in India will be kept around ₹53 lacs, which will be a direct competitor to the newly launched BYD SEAL, which is priced at ₹53 lacs.
