The Hype for the 2024 Ford Endeavour in India is over the roof with Ford even testing the trend variant of the 2024 Endeavour. So to ride on this Fortuner rival trend, Mitsubishi might be gearing up to launch their 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport In India offering the Great Japanese Reliability with great features (at least better than the Fortuner)

Mitsubishi Pajero History

Originally, the Pajero was launched way back in 1981 more than 40 years ago. But, in 1996, Mitsubishi came up with a modern alternative or a variant of the Pajero called the Pajero Sport. It was sold in quite a few International markets, like North America, South America, Europe, Spain, the Middle East, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom. 

Mitsubishi Pajero was first launched in India in 2002 under a joint venture with Hindustan Motors, and 10 years later, Mitsubishi also introduced the Pajero Sport in India in 2012. Just after the Pajero Sport was launched in India, the original Pajero was discontinued by the brand in 2012. The Pajero Sport was sort of the second generation of the Pajero in India. 

It did well in terms of sales back then in India. It competed with SUVs like Fortuner and Endeavour gave them a tough one, too. But, as time passed by, the Pajero Sport gradually became irrelevant, Mitsubishi somehow dragged the Pajero Sport till 2021, and then due to Pajero Sport’s failure in the Indian market, it was discontinued in the same year. 

2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Exterior Design

The new 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport that is going to launch in India is in no way a normal or usual SUV. It is huge from wherever you look at it. It is big, long, and broad. This helps the 2024 Pajero Sport’s road presence to be better than Fortuner, as it has been designed in that way. 

The Front design of the 2024 Pajero Sport is filled with chrome, like every other Japanese SUV. On the top, it gets three big horizontal slats made up of chrome that also hold the Mitsubishi logo in a triangular housing, which also shelters the ADAS’ radar Below that we can see a decently big grille that also acts as the only grille on the front. On both sides of this grille, Mitsubishi has again made use of chrome with big C-shaped inserts. At the very bottom, we can see the skid plate that has been given a silver finish for the SUV’s premium look. 

The Headlamp unit is very filled on the front, as it gets a split Headlamp setup. On the top, there has been placed the DRLs on both ends of the chrome slats. These DRLs also surround the only LED projector beam of the 2024 Pajero Sport. Then, beside the C-shaped chrome inserts, have been placed two LED reflectors, and on top of these, there are the Indicators. 

On the Side, the 2024 Pajero Sport looks very long, thanks to the long-running chrome line below the windows. The 2024 Pajero Sport stands on 18’ alloy wheels, which have been fitted to 265 / 60 section of tires. The alloy wheel design has slats in it, with further looking like a ‘T’. The 2024 Pajero Sport, being a full-size 7-seater SUV, does not get any wheel claddings, but it does get a huge ground clearance of 218 mm. The wheel claddings of the 2024 SUV are very substantial having a thick boxy design given to them. 

The Door handles of the 2024 Pajero Sport have been given the chrome treatment, and the Driver and the Co-driver’s door handles get the request sensor feature. The window area of the 2024 Pajero Sport is big, too, giving an airy feeling inside the cabin. 

On the Rear, the 2024 Pajero Sport looks more like the Mahindra Scorpio N, as even the Pajero has a straight 90* cut on the back. The Tail lamps of the SUV have been placed vertically on both sides and do use the LEDs. The 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport gets an electric tailgate. It also gets a towing hook and can tow up to 3 tons of load.

As said, the 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a huge SUV, so just to be specific how huge? Here are the numbers -

To speak a bit about its off-road capabilities, the 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero gets an approach angle of 30* and a Departure angle of 24*. The Pajero Sport also gets a massive 700 mm water wading capacity. 

2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Interiors

The 2024 Pajero Sport’s interiors look more like the one in the Toyota Fortuner - Old but unbreakable. Even the layout of the interior and the components used is quite identical to the one in the Fortuner, then be it the 2024 Pajero Sport’s Instrument Cluster, Infotainment screen, or the Center console. 

Starting from the Infotainment screen, we get an 8’ Infotainment screen with a basic software interface. It does not have some modern-looking, smooth-working software, it gets a simple basic layout for that. It does get a few modern features, like a 360* camera, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, built-in Mitsubishi’s Navigation system, and some off-road details, etc. The overall user experience makes us feel that this screen would last long, unlike all the other screens filled with unnecessary tech. 

The 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero also gets an 8’ standing Instrument Cluster, which has been placed in between the speedometer and RPM meter. This screen displays some valuable information, like Instantaneous Fuel economy, Power and Torque meters, etc. The steering wheel of the Pajero Sport is filled with buttons, and it is a very chunky steering wheel, too. 

The center console of the Pajero Sport starting from beneath the Infotainment screen consists of a seatbelt reminder, Hazard button, and boot opening button. Below them is the Climate control, which is a single zone unit, and at the rear passenger can adjust the fan speed. After that, we can see a few charging points, with two USB-A points and one Cigarette lighter. Then comes the Drive selector, which is also very chunky to hold. The 2024 Pajero Sport gets 4x4 as an option, and it gets an Electronic parking brake as standard with an Auto Hold feature. Besides that, we can see a circular dial selector for drive modes. 

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a 7-seater SUV, as we know of. The boot space of the Pajero Sport with the third row in use gets 131 liters of space, and with the third row folded the space can be increased to more than 500 liters. 

2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Engine Options

The 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has a kerb weight of 2.2 tons. So, with respect to its kerb weight, the Pajero Sport’s engine produces a bit less power, even though being a large engine. It gets a 2.4 L Diesel Engine that produces 187 hp and 450 Nm of Torque. 

It accelerates from 0 - 100 under 12 seconds. 

When is the new Pajero Sport coming to India?

The 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be launching soon in India, as Mitsubishi has kick-started the initial operations of entering India. We can expect the Pajero Sport’s launch date in 2025.
