When it comes to luxury and performance, BMW has always been a brand that pushes boundaries. And in India, the fastest BMW is not a sedan or a coupe but it happens to be an SUV— the BMW XM. This is a high-performance SUV that combines electrification with brutal power, making it the most powerful BMW in the country. Designed to deliver an exhilarating driving experience while maintaining the practicality of an SUV. Today, let us dive into this most expensive BMW Car’s— Price, Features, Engine Specs, etc.
The BMW XM brings a unique blend of power, luxury, and technology. Launched as part of BMW's electrification push, the XM is a plug-in hybrid SUV that merges a twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor. This setup results in mad performance figures simultaneously offering improved fuel economy compared to traditional petrol-powered BMW M models.
What gives the XM its individuality is the fact that it was the first ‘M’ model to have a Plug-in-Hybrid Technology. It packs a 25.7 kWh battery, giving it an all-electric range of around 50 km, which is rare for an SUV of this weight.
Another interesting fact is that when BMW launched this SUV, it claimed the XM to have an economy of 61 km/L, but the truth is— that as the XM packs a 25 kWh battery pack, it can run up to 50 km on an all-electric mode, as said earlier; adding to it, it has a non-electric fuel economy of 10.5 km/L. So, ultimately, BMW has just added both these numbers, and played a “Marketing Trick— The XM gives 61 km/L of mileage”. In the real world, the XM delivers 10 km/L of mileage.
The XM’s design structure resembles that of a typical BMW SUV, as it gets muscular claddings with a huge road presence. Up front, the XM stands tall and bold with BMW’s Kidney Grille, which also has illuminated borders. It offers split headlamp design with DRLs (also acting as Indicators) placed on the nose-line, and LED beams placed lower. Other than that, the XM packs some striking lines in the lower half of the front end. It also gets a contrasting blacked-out portion for the lower grille, which also houses radar for the ADAS.
On the Side, it runs on 22’ alloy wheels, which, even though are of such huge size, still look smaller because of XM’s road presence. It gets decent-sized claddings finished in gloss-black. Also, it gets conventional door handles and big ORVMs with camera units for the 360-degree Camera system. It also runs a black line throughout the side profile that later, wraps the upper window area.
The Rear profile is quite unusual for a BMW, as it lacks a 3D logo of the brand, rather than the 3D logo, it gets two laser-printed logos on both the upper corners of the rear windshield. It gets a slim design treatment for its tail lamps with XM logo in the middle of both lamps. The XM also shines from the back, as it gets Quad exhaust outlets, two on each side.
Step inside, and the XM’s cabin is a showcase of cutting-edge technology and luxury. The interior is crafted with Merino leather upholstery, carbon fiber trims, and Alcantara roof lining— creating an ultra-premium feel. The ambient lighting system, which features prism-style LED lights on the roof, enhances the SUV’s futuristic aesthetic.
The dashboard is dominated by BMW’s massive curved display, which consists of a 12.3' Instrument cluster and a 14.9' Infotainment system running on BMW’s latest iDrive 8, this unit is also shared in BMW’s X7. The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it comes with BMW’s voice assistant and gesture controls.
It gets Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system that delivers an immersive experience with 20 speakers. The SUV also features a head-up display with augmented reality navigation, 4-zone climate control, and ventilated, heated, and massaging seats for added comfort. The rear cabin offers M Lounge seating, with plush cushions and extended legroom, making it one of the most luxurious SUVs to be chauffeured in.
Under the hood, the BMW XM packs the legendary 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which is shared in a variety of cars. This engine is paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 653 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in just 4.3 seconds, making it the fastest BMW SUV in India. Power is sent to all four wheels via BMW’s M xDrive system, and all of this is managed by an 8-speed Automatic Transmission.
BMW XM is sold in India as the flagship of BMW SUVs, and its price tag also resembles the same— ₹2.6 Cr.
