Tata Motors has already done wonders in 2024. Updating almost all of their SUVs and Hatchbacks with its new-age technology and also launching an all-new Coupe SUV rivaling the Hyundai Creta has made Tata Motors appear in every conversation. Well, Tata has not decided to stop here itself, as the brand is going to unveil the ICE version of the Curvv on September 1, 2024, simultaneously, it is also working on launching the World’s first CNG car with a Turbo Engine at an affordable price of ₹9.50 Lakhs.
Tata Motors is renowned for bringing innovation to the Indian Automobile market. It started with the Sierra - A Two Door, Spacious, Off-road SUV up to the latest innovation made by the brand - Twin-Cylinder CNG Technology.
This Twin-Cylinder CNG technology was developed by Tata Motors to increase Boot space in its CNG-powered Cars and SUVs. Tata Motors calls it ‘i-CNG’. At first, it was introduced in the Altroz and then, was brought in the Tiago, Tigor, and Punch, too. Tata Motors was also the first brand in the world to introduce an Automatic Transmission mated to a CNG-powered car - the Tata Tiago i-CNG.
Moreover, this is just about CNG cars from Tata Motors. The brand has done a lot more in other fields as well, like EVs - Tata.ev (EV Sub-brand of Tata Motors) is the market leader in the EV segment of India. With over 70% of market capture, no one is even close to the brand. This way, Tata Motors could be the next Maruti Suzuki in the EV sector.
The upcoming CNG SUV from Tata Motors will be mated to a Turbo Petrol engine. This engine will be the same 1.2 L 3-Cylinder Turbo Petrol engine that is seen in the Altroz Racer, Nexon, and will be made available in the upcoming ICE Curvv. This Turbo Petrol engine will be the first of its kind to be powered through CNG.
Tata Motors has not revealed any power figure details of this upcoming Turbo CNG engine but, we expect it to produce the same power figures - 120 PS and 170 Nm torque. If this happens, it will be the most powerful factory-fitted CNG car in the world. So, if you are keen to know what is this SUV all about, whether it is an all-new launch from the brand, an existing SUV’s derivative, or the Curvv ICE?
Well, this new Turbo CNG-powered SUV is going to be the upcoming Tata Nexon i-CNG. Yes, below the Nexon, Tata Motors has launched CNG derivatives of all its Hatchbacks and SUVs, and it clearly says that the Nexon is the next CNG-conversion target for Tata Motors. By getting this Turbo CNG powered engine, the Nexon will be the world’s first SUV, or even a Car, to have it. It will also be the most powerful CNG SUV of India generating over 120 PS. Secondly, it will also be made available with an Automatic Gearbox alongside the regular Manual Gearbox.
Speaking of the CNG tank setup in the Nexon Turbo CNG - It will probably be a 60-liter Tank that will be divided in 30-liters of two small tanks. These tanks will be fitted lower down in the Boot space of the Nexon which is 382 liters.
We believe that this twin-cylinder setup could eat up the boot space of about 100 liters in the Nexon, ultimately, leaving a usable boot space of over 280 liters. If this happens then, the Nexon Turbo CNG will have the biggest boot compared to its key rival - the Maruti Brezza CNG whose boot space is almost unusable with the huge CNG tank. Secondly, the Spare wheel in the Nexon Turbo CNG will also be relocated under the body at the rear section and will be accessed in the same way, as in the big SUVs.
More about the Nexon Turbo CNG - It will be a versatile machine, like other Tata CNG SUVs and Cars.
It can be started in the CNG mode,
In case of any accidents, the CNG supply to the Engine will be cut off,
The SUV will automatically get turned off if the Fuel lid is opened,
It can also detect a leak if there happens to be one,
and A Fire Extinguisher is placed for greater safety.
To speak of Nexon specifically, then, the SUV has already been Crash-tested by Global NCAP and has scored all 5 stars. It gets a list of safety features, starting with 6Airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, ISO-Fix Child Seat mounts in the Rear seat, and a strong, well-tested Chassis.
The Nexon already is a feature-rich SUV in its segment. Having a super attractive design with sharp and muscular edges, the Nexon could also be claimed as the best-looking SUV in its segment. The Nexon offers a slue of features, as said, and so will the upcoming Nexon Turbo CNG.
Starting with the Automatic all-LED Headlamp setup with Sequential Turn Indicators, the Tail lamp also gets LEDs with a Halogen Reverse lamp, 16-inch Diamond cut Alloys with Aero inserts, Rain sensing wipers with Rear Wiper & Washer, etc.
Inside the cabin, Tata Motors has bumped the game even more with the Nexon. So, the Nexon Tubro CNG could get - a 10.25-inch Infotainment screen with Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a Two Spoke Steering wheel with a Digitally illuminating Tata logo, All four Power window controls with the Child lock function, a 10.25-inch Instrument Cluster with Navigational Map display, Ventilated Front seats, Touch-sensitive Panel for Media Control, Wireless Charging Pad, Single zone Climate control with Rear AC vents, Cooled Glove box, Sunroof, 360-degree Cmaera with 3D view, etc.
The Nexon Turbo CNG has only one rival currently in the segment - the Maruti Brezza CNG. The Brezza CNG was also the first SUV in the segment to have a CNG iteration. It produces 87 hp and 121 Nm torque.
Once, the Nexon turbo CNG is launched, it will be the most powerful CNG SUV in the segment.
The Nexon CNG could be launched within this year-end, 2024. We believe it could be running on the Indian after the next festive season.
The Price of the Nexon Turbo CNG is expected to start from ₹9.50 Lakhs.
