Skoda Auto Volkswagen India startled the automobile segment with its leaked strategy to restrategize its game plan in the Indian sector. Unveiled in mid-2025, the strategy reflects a stark transformation towards launching India-specific electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle platforms.
This step shows Skoda's intentions to root itself further in the world's most competitive motorcar market as well as align itself with India's changing regulatory as well as consumer requirements. Some answers here at the future on Skoda's cards in India.
Two prominent platforms in Skoda's spied plans stand out here.
India Main Platform (IMP) for EVs:Based on Volkswagen's China Main Platform (CMP), the IMP is optimized for cost-effectiveness, local legislation, and Indian road conditions. The platform will support four electric SUVs—two by Skoda and two by Volkswagen—with models such as the Enyaq and Elroq to be rolled out by late 2025.
MQB A037 for ICE and Hybrids:This all-new modular platform succeeds the aged MQB A0IN and is capable of hosting bigger cars, hybrid engines, and advanced SDV functions. It will serve as the base for next-gen Kushaq, Taigun, Slavia, and Virtus with greater space and efficiency. The move to create these platforms in-house comes after failed negotiations with Mahindra for the sharing of EV technology, and Skoda-VW is left on its own.
The project entails an approximate investment of €1–2 billion (₹8,000–17,000 crore) and focuses on local supplier collaboration to keep costs low. India will also be an export base for these platforms to cater to growing markets in Asia and Africa.
Future Models:EVs, Hybrids, and ICE Powerhouses
Skoda Enyaq: Releasing in September 2025, 82 kWh battery capacity with a range of 586 km distance. Competition against Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BYD Atto 3 directly.
Skoda Elroq:It is available for approximately ₹35 lakh, and the compact electric car has a 560 km range. This vehicle features Skoda's new "Modern Solid" design philosophy.
Next-Gen Kushaq & Taigun:MQB A037-based SUVs will get hybrid models, more interior room, and SDV amenities such as over-the-air updates.
Octavia RS:Hot hatch variant of Sedan with a 265 PS turbo-petrol engine, being introduced in July 2025.
Superb &Kodiaq:Fresh designs with upscale interiors and 2.0L turbo-petrol engines.
At Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Skoda unveiled its future:
Octavia vRS: Spicy sedan with a design blacked-out and a top speed of 250 kmph.
Vision 7S Concept:Futuristic EV concept with 600 km range, hinting at where Skoda design was headed.
Kylaq:Sub-4m SUV with 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, which is already creating waves in the budget space.
Negotiations did not work out on cost-sharing and platform compatibility issues. Skoda decided to develop locally in order to have control over technology and costs.
Localization brings down production costs, making it possible to price competitively. The IMP is also compliant with India's safety norms and has been engineered for fast-charging infrastructure.
Yes. The MQB A037 platform is hybrid tech-friendly, and Skoda can achieve India's CAFE 3 emission norms and fill the gap between ICE and EVs.
The Enyaq will be priced at ₹45 lakh, and the Elroq should come in at ₹35 lakh. Both will hit premium with affordability.
Skoda's revealed roadmap reflects a pragmatically assertive plan. Platform localisation enables the auto major to focus on price-sensitive Indian buyers along with future-proofing its model line-up using EVs and hybrids. Even the export boost makes India an international manufacturing center for Volkswagen Group.
As petr Janeba, Skoda India’s Brand Director, stated: “India is crucial to our growth strategy. We’re committed to delivering cutting-edge technology tailored for Indian consumers”. With models like the Enyaq and Octavia RS on the horizon, Skoda is poised to redefine its legacy in India—one innovative platform at a time.
