It has been about one year since Mahindra unveiled its future Electric Vehicle plans. These plans include a new sub-brand, BE ( Born Electric ), and a few EVs under Mahindra’s name as well. And one of the Mahindra’s upcoming EVs has been spied on, the Mahindra XUV e8 or the 2024 XUV800.
Mahindra XUV e8 is basically an electrified version of the Mega-popular Mahindra XUV 700. As we already know, the XUV 700 is a powerhouse both in terms of Features and Power, but the XUV e8 is going to be even more, just with an Electric battery.
One of our beloved carversal Pros (@himanshu_bisht0) sent us a spy shot of a parked Mahindra XUV e8. This Mahindra XUV e8 was spied parked at a restaurant. It contains many huge and important details compared to its conceptual avatar. So, let us dive into them.
These spy shots of the upcoming Mahindra XUV e8 or the Electric XUV800 tell us a lot of stories. It helps us differentiate the XUV e8 from its ICE avatar, XUV 700, and we can clearly see that as it now looks closer to its production avatar.
First up, is the Front Design of the New Electric Mahindra. We can compare the front designs of both, the concept and this spied Mahindra XUV e8, and we can cleverly make out differences. This spied Mahindra XUV e8 gets a different nose. This differently designed nose consists of more angles and is also connected to the one over the other side. But, if you are wondering, why does it look so empty? Then, it is because the nose has been designed in a way that it could accommodate the LED DRLs and maybe the Head Lamps, too. It is just that this spied version doesn’t pack those DRLs or Head Lamps. Anyways, talking more about the nose’s design, it is more angular, as said, but it also contains a flipped C-shaped design at the corners compared to the XUV 700’s DRL design.
The second is the front Grille of the Electric 7 Seater Mahindra SUV. Even though the front grille is completely camouflaged, we can still make out that it could get a different grille design, which, by the way, would be no grille design at all. Yes, as we saw on its concept, and the XUV e8 being an EV after all, it is very evident that it could get a sealed packed Front grille design. And by looking at the spy shots, we can say that the XUV e8’s front stands more upright compared to its ICE version.
Next are the Alloys OF THE 2024 XUV e8. The Alloy design is different on the Mahindra XUV e8 when compared to the XUV700. They are more straightforward and contain a less complicated design compared to the XUV 700. Nowadays, as we notice on other Mahindra EVs’ spy shots that are being tested, they are getting a simple Alloy design with an odd number of slats. The same case is over here; this spied Mahindra XUV e8 also gets a 5-slat design on its Alloy wheels.
Besides these details, the rest of the car looks precisely similar with no such design changes. Though making some presumptions, other than these changes, we expect Mahindra to provide an updated ADAS technology on the XUV e8 and a more precise & advanced 360-degree Camera system.
There is a lot to talk about the interiors, as its layout has been completely changed and made more gimmicky. So, let us go one by one.
Skoda started off the trend of two-spoke steering wheels in affordable car segments of India, and now we can see Tatas already have started following it with the new 2023 Nexon facelift and Mahindra pacing up to do the same with this XUV e8. The XUV e8 will surely get a two-spoke steering wheel, as seen in the spy shots, but it is going to be slightly different than the Tata’s. As we can notice, there is no added upper or lower cover on the XUV e8’s steering wheel, unlike Tata Nexon’s. It is straight and simple. It gets two push-buttons on both sides and, of course, a screen to display Mahindra’s logo in the middle. The steering wheel shape overall looks the same as the XUV 700, with a flat bottom. Though it is surprising that Mahindra did not show a two-spoke steering wheel on the XUV e8’s concept, maybe it was the new Tata Nexon who ignited this idea in Mahindra’s house.
A new drive selector stick can be seen. Though it is not new, as such a stick is already available on the XUV 400, still, for the XUV e8, it is new! It contains a copper borderline, which divides the P-R-N-D display from the rest of the stick’s body.
Finally, we are seeing this from an Indian manufacturer. Three connected screens by far are the coolest feature one could have in his/her car. And the Mahindra XUV800 can be seen equipped with it. Though we can see that the Infotainment screen and the co-drivers screen have been covered, but it is just for the testing phase. Well, to tell you honestly, this particular three-screen feature is so cool that even we are not able to expect what Mahindra could offer on those screens. But, we can say one thing: the Driver’s Instrumentation and the Infotainment screen would be specifically equipped with features oriented for the Driver. But, the co-passenger screen will be focused more on the entertainment purpose. Like the one that we saw in the Nexon.ev - the Arcade.ev app, the same kind of stuff could also be expected over here, through which the co-passenger could entertain himself/herself.
A Head-Up Display is visible right behind the Driver’s Instrumentation. If you can see a squarish hole visible, yep! That is the Head-Up Display, which the XUV e8 will be debuting with. This Display will most probably showcase some vehicular information, like Speed, other measurable numerical, Navigation, and a few vehicle data.
We expect it to debut in Quarter Two or Quarter Three of 2024. And launch could be expected in late 2024 or early 2025.
The battery size of the Mahindra XUV e8 is expected to be somewhere between 60 kWh to 80 kWh.
The Driving range of the Mahindra XUV e8 is expected to be a lot more practical than other affordable EVs in India. It could be around 400 - 550 km of Real World Driving range.
The Mahindra XUV900 Coupe SUV is expected to launch by the second half of 2025
