Tata Motors has been doing wonders in terms of safety in all of its products. A few months ago the 2024 Tata Safari and the 2024 Tata Harrier proved themselves to be the safest cars in India, surpassing the German SUV-Sedan siblings, Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. Well, now, Tata Motors has set a new record with its Punch.ev, as it surpassed both the 2024 Harrier and Safari in the crash test ratings of Bharat NCAP.
The Tata Punch has been Tata Motors’ best-selling SUV for the past few months, surpassing the mighty Tata Nexon. Thanks to the Punch.ev, as it deserves the credit for making the Punch best-selling SUV for Tata Motors. In 2021, the Punch ICE was sent to Global NCAP for its crash tests, and with no surprises, it scored a complete 5 stars in the Adult Safety rating, and 4 stars in the Child Safety.
Well, in 2024, the Punch EV was sent for its crash tests to the Bharat NCAP, and this time it outscored its own ICE sibling by scoring a complete 5 Stars in both Adult and Child Safety Ratings. This made the Punch EV, the new safest car in India, as it overtook both Harrier and Safari in terms of Crash test ratings given by Bharat NCAP.
To know more in detail about the Tata Punch.ev’s Crash test conducted by Bharat NCAP, here’s the analysis -
The Empower + S Long Range variant of the Tata Punch.ev was tested by Bharat NCAP, which also happens to be the top variant of the Punch EV. This variant packs every safety feature that the Punch.ev is offered.

The Punch.ev was tested in a total of three crash tests - Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, and Side Pole Impact Test.
In this test, mainly the post-crash conditions of the Driver and Passenger are examined. These examinations, then, are concluded by stating the particular body parts of the dummy in various conditions, like Good, Adequate, Marginal, Weak, and Poor. The post-crash examination of both Driver and Passenger happened to be very safe, more details -
The Side Movable Deformable Barrier is conducted to see how safe the car is in a Side impact. Usually, the Driver’s side is crash-tested to rate the vehicle. Over here, too, the post-crash body condition of the dummy is examined in order to give the crash test ratings. Overall, the dummy body condition was reported to be in good shape, more details -
The Side Pole impact, too, is conducted to examine the vehicle’s durability in a Side impact. The Side Movable Deformable Barrier test and the Side Pole Impact test are both way different in terms of the intensity of a crash, as the energy transferred in both crashes is different. The examination in the Side Pole Impact test is the same as both the previous tests. In the Side Pole Impact, the entire body of the dummy was declared to be in good shape, more details -
These three tests made the Tata Punch.ev score a complete 5 Stars in the Adult Safety rating, as it gained 31.46 points out of 32 points, which also happens to be the highest to date in all of the Bharat NCAP Crash tests.
The Child Safety ratings were given by attaching a child seat with a dummy in it, in the rear seat. This seat was present in all three crash tests conducted - Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, and Side Pole Impact Test. The scores given for Child Safety are based on the post-crash casualties and the state of the child dummy. Moreover, the vehicle assessment score also adds up to this Child Safety score.
The Tata Punch.ev scored 5 Stars in Child Safety rating, too, by gaining 45 points out of 49 points. This score also happens to be the most scored amongst all the Bharat NCAP scores to date.
