Tata Sumo 2025: A ₹9 Lakh SUV to Beat Fortuner – Here's Why!

February 10th, 2025

The Tata Sumo 2025, the latest all-new vehicle by Tata Motors, promises to take the SUV market head-on against competitors like the Toyota Fortuner and other premium SUVs.

This beast of a car is going to be available in the market for an astonishing price of ₹9 lakh ex-showroom, offering a combination of rugged performance, modern design, and advanced features that would place it well ahead in the SUV segment, which is a cutthroat one.

A Modern Revival of an Iconic Nameplate

Tata Sumo, an Indian household name, is set to make a grand comeback with a completely revamped avatar. While retaining the fundamental essence of the original Sumo—its strength and versatility—this 2025 model sports contemporary design features and cutting-edge technology.

This new Sumo is based on Tata's newest ALFA architecture, which includes a light but strong framework and increases performance and decreases fuel efficiency.

Design: Rugged yet refined

Tata Sumo Premium Interior

The Tata Sumo 2025 undoubtedly boasts ruggedly bold, muscle-cut outer appeal. The front fascia is completed with chrome sheath grilles, surrounded by LED projector headlamps and DRLs.

It bears an aggressively chiseled hood and a heavily designed front bumper, leaving its presence in one's mind on the roads. On the side profile, it depicts defined wheel arches, roof rails, and style alloy wheels. On the rear aspect, LED taillights and a sporty spoiler have been used.

But, of course, the new Sumo is equally good from inside. Comfort and convenience are more than the dicta it aims at. There's enough room for seven, with a 2-3-2 format, and wood-finish accents and soft-touch upholstery ensure it feels pretty upscale.

The all-new dashboard holds a large 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility along with an all-digital instrument cluster.

Performance: Power Meets Efficiency

The Tata Sumo 2025 will be driven by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine of 170 PS with a torque of 350 Nm.

A 6-speed manual is a standard feature; however, those who are lenient and would like to relax on the roads can choose the 6-speed automatic. There will be multiple drive modes as well from Tata's Terrain Management System: Eco, City, and Sport.

Later this year, Tata will roll out a hybrid variant of the Sumo 2025. This car will run on a 1.5-liter petrol engine combined with an electric motor, resulting in better fuel efficiency and lesser emissions.

Features: Packed with Technology

This load of features caters to both convenience and safety within the Tata Sumo 2025. A few of them are mentioned below:

Additional safety feature: It has six airbags along with ABS/EBD and electronic stability control. It also boasts Hill Hold Assist and a 360° camera to ensure safety.

Connectivity: The infotainment system includes wireless connectivity as well. Further, the vehicle also offers an inbuilt WiFi hotspot for passengers who can use it inside the vehicle.

Comfort: This vehicle is known to be a pleasure to drive due to some comfort features. The comfort features of this Sumo 2025 include ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof, as well as dual-zone automatic climate control.

Off-Road Capability: The vehicle's ground clearance is 220 mm while water-wading capability is 500 mm, so this is ready for all the roughest terrains.

Pricing and Competition

But with a price tag of just ₹9 lakh, the Tata Sumo 2025 presents a value-for-money option for premium SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Creta. Not having the brand value of the Fortuner, the Sumo 2025 makes it more than worthwhile by being the most price-aggressive, feature-rich, and of course the sturdy build quality.

According to Tata Motors, the new Sumo is targeting young families and adventure-loving customers. Initial market response looks very promising for this SUV too. Bookings for the new Tata Sumo 2025 are likely to be opened soon next month, while deliveries might start in the early months of 2025.
