Mahindra Thar 5 door has been launched in India under the name - Thar Roxx. Well, as the name suggests, the SUV is here to rock! With a bigger size in almost all terms compared to the Thar 3-door, the Thar Roxx has almost all of its aspects right with Mahindra’s brilliant engineering. In fact, Mahindra’s Chief Designer and Creative Officer - Mr. Pratap Bose mentioned that the Thar Roxx is not just a Thar 3-door with two doors but, a Thar 3-door with two more doors and more…
The Mahindra Thar Roxx precisely sits in the segment of Midsize Off-roaders, which includes some REAL SUVs like the Force Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. But, despite these actual Thar Roxx rivals, we can also say that the SUV will head against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and Honda Elevate.
Moreover, Thar Roxx will also go against the upcoming Tata Curvv ICE - the first-ever Tata Midsize SUV for India.
The Thar Roxx gets a design that is close to what we all had predicted it to have. The Thar Roxx mostly looks exactly like the Jeep Wrangler 5-door but, Mahindra managed to differentiate the SUV from quite a few angles by adding a few bits.
From the front, the Thar Roxx gets a new Grille with a more blocky design. The Grille also holds the front unit of the 360-degree Camera system. Down below, the bumper of the Thar Roxx is exactly similar to the one in the Thar 3-door. The Front Radar for the Level-2 ADAS is also hidden somewhere in the Grille Moreover, to give a bit more classic look, Mahindra retained the hood hinge locks in the Thar Roxx. On the windshield, we can also see a Front monitoring camera for the Level-2 ADAS.
On the Side, the Thar Roxx is longer and measures 4428 mm. Moreover, we get new Diamond cut 19-inch alloy wheels for the Top variants of the Thar Roxx, and 18-inch alloys for lower variants with steel rims, too. The claddings on the Thar Roxx are very similar to the ones on the Thar 3-door. The Thar Roxx has 5 doors being a 5-door but, the rear door is quite small with a small window area, as well. The roof is a single-piece hard-top roof, which also holds a panoramic sunroof in it for the top variants.
The Rear is exactly similar to the 3-door with a new LED Tail lamp design. It also gets its Spare wheel mounted on the Rear door. It also has a Rear Wiper and Washer, unlike the Thar 3-door.
Thar Roxx gets a similar layout from the Thar 3-door for its Interiors. It gets a pretty robust cabin quality that will resist any damage that could occur while offroading. It does not have a soft-top option, unlike the Thar 3-door. But, the Thar Roxx also gets many more features than its sibling the Thar 3-door -
A 10.25-inch Infotainment screen with Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 9-speaker system, a 360-degree Camera system, a 10.25-inch Instrument Cluster from the XUV 3XO, Ventilated Front-row Seats, XUV 7OO’s Electric Steering wheel with button controls, Electric Parking Brake with Auto Hold Function, Panoramic Sunroof, Single-zone Climate Control, All Four Power windows, Electric Driver seat, Wireless Charging Pad, Cooled Glove Box, etc.
The Thar Roxx has a bright white interior theme, which goes quite opposite with respect to it being an off-road SUV. The space in the cabin has also been increased thanks to the lengthened wheelbase of 2850 mm. The boot space has increased dramatically in the Thar Roxx and now measures up to 644 liters. Like the Thar 3-door, the Roxx also gets some of its speakers placed on the roof at the very back.
The Thar Roxx is offered with two usual Mahindra engines that power every other Big Mahindra SUV - XUV 7OO, Thar 3-door, and Scorpio N. It gets the mStallion 2.0 L Turbo-GDI Petrol Engine and the mHawk 2.2 L Turbo Diesel Engine.
The mStallion unit which is the 2.0 L T-Petrol Engine, produces 160/150 hp for Top and Low variants, respectively. The Torque output of these engines is 330 Nm. These figures are for the 6-speed Manual only. The 6-speed Torque Converter Gearbox helps the mStallion engine produce 175 hp and 380 Nm torque. This 2.0 L mStallion engine is only mated to an RWD setup and it does not get a 4WD system.
The mHawk which is the 2.2 L T-Diesel Engine, produces 150 hp and 330 Nm torque with a 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Torque Converter Gearbox for the Lower variants. With the same 6-speed Torque Converter Gearbox, it produces 170 hp and 370 Nm torque for Top variants. This Engine is mated with a 4WD system with all the mechanical goodies for better off-roading.
The Thar Roxx is available in a total of 14 variants ( as of now ), out of which, Nine are Diesel-powered variants and the other Five are Petrol-powered variants.
