February 12th, 2024

The Volkswagen Group is one of the biggest Automotive groups in the entire industry. With the acquisitions of some big and well-reputed brands, Volkswagen has the exposure to explore the capability aspect of its environment. We have seen some examples of these in the past when the brand experimented with the Skoda Rapid. The Volkswagen group gave the sedan the hands of some students and assigned them to make a one-off project car out of it. And what did they make? They made the normal hard-top Skoda Rapid into a convertible Skoda Rapid and called it the Skoda Rapid Cabriolet. Well, such an ambitious project was showcased recently in Brazil, the Volkswagen Virtus Cabriolet. Let us know everything about this car by getting into today’s topic of the Volkswagen Virtus Convertible edition looks Dope, and gets Frameless Doors.

The Skoda Rapid Cabriolet -

The Skoda Rapid was discontinued in India in 2021. After that, two years later, the brand came up with a surprise, where it showed a convertible version of the Rapid. They mentioned that this project was specifically done to explore the valuable talents in the Industry. But, there is one difference between the Skoda Rapid Cabriolet and the Volkswagen Virtus Cabriolet. The Rapid Cabriolet was made by students as a part of a project, but the Virtus Cabriolet was made by the brand itself for the visit of the Brazilian President.

Recently, in Brazil, there was a visit made by the nation’s President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, to the manufacturing plant of Volkswagen situated in Brazil. Concerning this special visit, the brand decided to throw a one-off project car to impress the President. So, they chose the Volkswagen Virtus, which is exported to Brazil from India.

What is new in the Volkswagen Virtus Cabriolet?

They made a few changes to the car in terms of giving the convertible look. First, they got rid of the roof and the side pillars. Then they made some realignments to the doors to give the convertible’s body shape. A strengthening rod was added to both the B-pillars so that they could stay intact without the roof’s support. The body floor was also slightly stretched to increase the legroom inside the cabin. The additions made to the floor also led to some changes to the Fuel tank and the Rear seats.

This Volkswagen Virtus Cabriolet is an iteration of the made-in-India-and-exported-to-Brazil Virtus, but it is not completely the same compared to the Indian version.

The Brazilian spec of the Volkswagen Virtus Cabriolet uses a 1.4 L Turbo Petrol Engine, which generates an identical set of power figures to the Indian spec Virtus, which are 148 hp and 250 Nm of Torque

This Brazilian spec Virtus Convertible also runs on a different type of 18’ alloy wheels. These wheels are more sharp and edgy compared to the ones on the Indian spec Virtus.

Will the Volkswagen Virtus Cabriolet come to India?

Well, this is a bit sad because this fine-looking convertible is just a prototype, and has very less chance of coming to its production avatar. But, even if it comes to its production avatar, Volkswagen will not bring this to India, it will only be sold in Brazil, as it was showcased there.
