Tata Curvv is currently the most trending name in the Car Industry of India. Having revealed it on 19 July, Tata Motors has hyped everyone up for the upcoming Tata Curvv launch in India. Well, all the hype totally makes sense, as the Curvv is the first Coupe SUV ever made by an Indian Car Manufacturer.
The Curvv, once launched, will rival India’s Compact / Midsize SUV segment. This segment contains some well-selling SUVs in India, like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and MG Astor. Out of all these SUVs, the Hyundai Creta absolutely kills every other SUV. Every single month, for the past year, the Hyundai Creta has averagely sold more than 10,000 units, in June 2024, it sold 16,293 units of itself.
So, this one thing is confirmed, the upcoming Tata Curvv has got some extensively brutal competition named Creta! But, that does not mean that Curvv is going to be just another victim of Creta’s supremacy in the segment. As said, the Curvv’s launch is the most anticipated upcoming car launch currently, which means that the SUV will definitely pack a serious punch to tackle its Midsize SUV rivals.
Therefore, let us discuss what could the Curvv get more than the Creta.
The Curvv will be the first SUV in the Midsize segment and also the first-ever Indian-made SUV to be launched having a Coupe SUV design. The Coupe design highlights its sloping roofline past the B-pillar. It rejects the traditional look we usually see on other cars, which is why, it stands apart from other designs. It ultimately looks cool and sexy, and even better in SUVs.
The Curvv will endorse this design as the first in the segment, which will be the first reason for everyone to go for the Curvv over the Creta. Crets’s design was recently updated slightly, which made it look quite better than the pre-facelift’s pathetically boring design. Now, the Creta has got quite a bit of boxy-ness to its design being an SUV but, it still carries that old and traditional SUV design language.
Hence, the reason behind the Curvv being a Coupe SUV in the first place is because the Creta has gone way ahead of being beaten by traditional selling aspects in its rivals, and it is a pure fact. So, instead of making a usual-looking SUV, Tata Motors went for something unconventional, which is a Coupe design. This gives an upper hand to the brand, as the SUV is already in conversations because of its Coupe design, and also the design aspect will hit hard on Creta’s dominance in the segment.
The 1.2 L T-GDi Petrol engine that was revealed at the Auto Expo 2023 of India held in Delhi is Tata Motors’ first Turbo GDi engine. Before this, the brand tried making some sporty petrol engines but, failed every time due to under-engineering. But, this time, the brand has promised for an exciting experience in terms of these engines, which could be a selling aspect for the Curvv over the Creta.
The 1.2 L T-GDi engine on the other hand was supposed to replace the current 1.2 L Turbo Petrol engine but, it is not going to, as Tata Motors has revealed that both engines will be made available simultaneously. This T-GDi engine will make 125 PS and 225 Nm Torque. This engine will also be mated to a DCA Gearbox. This engine is surely making its debut with the Curvv, unlike the 1.5 L T-GDi engine.
Then comes the existing, 1.2 L Turbo Petrol Engine, which produces 120 hp and 170 Nm Torque. This engine was recently introduced in the Altroz as well. It is also available in the current Nexon and is also one of the old and well-tested engines of Tata Motors.
It will also have a strong and reliable 1.5 L Turbo Diesel engine, which will chunk out 110 PS and 260 Nm Torque. This engine is also one of the most sold in the Nexon’s line-up. It has also been running for a long period of time in the house of Tata, which has made it go through some serious updates at regular intervals.
There was one more engine, which was supposed to be launched with the Curvv but, it seems Tata Motors is taking more time for it. It is the 1.5 L T-GDi Petrol engine, which will be the most powerful 1.5 L Turbo Petrol engine, as it will produce 180 PS and 280 Nm Torque. This will also make the Tata Curvv, the most powerful SUV in its segment. More importantly, this engine will definitely be mated with a DCA Gearbox, which DCT Gearbox in Tata’s language, and this will make the performance even better. But, the problem is that Tata Motors has been working on this engine for over a year, and has not yet released any update since the Auto Expo 2023. Hence, the certainty of this engine making its debut with the Curvv is very low but, we still have some hopes.
The Curvv is set to bring some exciting advanced features with itself to tackle the competition. With its unique design, the Curvv will also be distinctive in terms of technology.
It will have a few segment-first features, like a Rear Passenger Electrically Adjustable seat, Sun Shades, a Digitally illuminated Logo on the Steering wheel, a 12.3-inch Infotainment screen, Navigation maps displayed on the Instrument Console, 3D Surround-view system, JBL sound modes, Multi-lingual voice command feature, etc.
As we are speaking of Advanced features, ADAS should be on the top but, ADAS will be a common feature in both the Tata Curvv and the Hyundai Creta.
